My dog died today.
I dont know how much more sadness I can take..she was only 6. My son is in Arizona, its his dog, but she stays with me. Her name was Lulu, she was a bulldog, she died suddenly of a seizure.
This is one of those really bad days. I am going to tell my son when he gets back tommorrow, I cant tell him on the phone.
I rushed her to the emergency Vet but she died.
IM so sick of sadness, and I guess Im just venting.

6. How sad
My sincere condolences, Mari. I lost my beloved cat Fergus two weeks ago to old age, and I can't believe he's gone and how lonely and devastated I felt. Six is very young for an animal to die, and I'm sure you must feel devastated, too. Please let your emotions out and cry as much as you need to, because the hurt will be crushing for a while. Take care.

8. Mari, our sincere condolences on your loss
My spouse and I lost our 12 year old retriever a while ago. We still grieve for her. Haven't been able to get another dog yet. We do get to visit our daughter's dogs and enjoy their company. Hope you and your son can get past this soon.

15. So very sorry to hear that...
I cannot imagine your pain. I have two aging Shepherds and absolutely dread the day that they will no longer be a part of our family. Many don't understand that losing a pet is losing a member of the family and the pain does not quickly fade. My heart truly goes out to you and your son. I hope the memories that you had with your dog will help to comfort you now and while you go through the grieving process.

18. My youngest son is blaming himself
she died after he took her for a walk...she has had a history of seizures, and the Vet said this could have happened at anytime..but my youngest son literally blames himself only because he took her for a walk...the Vet told him it wasnt his fault..
he is devastated...I wish he wouldnt blame himself..
I dont think its a good idea to tell my oldest son about this til he gets home from the airport tommorrow...he will be a mess, this will knock him out..he has had LULU since she was a a baby.
I will miss her
begging for treats
licking my legs
wanting to play "stick"
barking at silly things
wagging her tail
chasing the cats..

I know how it feels and I know that it's really horrible. Just remember that your dog had a very good life compared to most dogs world wide. I'm sure your dog's very thankful to have lived with you and your family.

God bless.

31. I'm so sorry for you
I'd like to share two things.

The first is from Chukchi sled dog lore. They believed that their dogs guarded the gates of heaven, and that the way you treated a dog in this life determined your place in heaven. When the dogs died, they would wait for you at the gates, curled up, and when you arrived they would wake up and pull you across.

The other is something a fellow DUer told me when one of our "family" passed away. Something like "Remember, you know that good dog is going to doggy heaven....which is conveniently located in the same place as squirrel hell."

:) (Hugs)

32. Sorry to hear about her dying
My pug died at 6 years old from epileptic seizures and it's common in bulldogs and pugs.

My heart was broken when my dog died when I was a kid and you did the right thing but not telling your son before he got home.

Sorry to hear about her dying she was a young dog and I feel bad that she died.

had many dogs die, but none this sudden except for my doberman..seems like the purebred breeds dont do as well, theres always something wrong..Im more worried now about my sons..my youngest blames himself, (thinks he overheated her on her walk), which the vet says isnt the reason...he is blaming himself, and my other son, who owns the dog, is on his way back from vacation..today..today will be hard, telling him, but I dont think I should tell him til he gets here, since he has to drive back from O Hare...that would be too much for him to hear on the phone..
Lulu was a sweet dog, she always was there, wanting to play, and when I saw her gasping for air, pawing at the ground in fear, and we loaded her into the car praying we could make it on time..I feel like we let her down...if only there were paramedics for dogs, or vets open all day closer to us on the weekend...if only..

37. It's worse if they die suddenly
My Cat Garfield died within 3 days after I took him to the vet and the vet said he was alright and he was getting old.

When you don't expect it it's worse. My dog LuLu was around 16 years old and she had went blind, deaf and had a dogie stroke right before she died. We expected her to die.

My Pug died when I was 8 years old and I never got over it. I kept asking my Dad to wake him back up because he was asleep and I needed him he was my only friend. He died in a seizure and we didn't expect it.
I couldn't get over it and I kept dreaming about him with his little red ball in his mouth playing ball with me.

My heart goes out to you because it's shocking when you don't expect it.

They are kids to us and we love them and it's like loosing a family member.

I hope your son's alright when he finds out. It's very hard to deal with.
