5. JIMI HENDRIX
Simply the best guitarist/musician that our country has produced in the last century.

Bob Marley hit it big and was dead before I really knew what was going on, but I love his music too.

11. Fans of Charlie Christian might give you an argument there.
...or even of Wes Montgomery, for that matter.

13. They might...
But since I was writing from the "my opinion" perspective, I will tell them they are wrong. :)

Actually, my musical background is pretty limited as I am not aware of the musicians you mention. I will have to check 'em out sometime.

17. Or Django Reinhardt, too
epsecially since Django had only two good fingers on his fretting hand (he lost the use of the other two in a fire). Although Wes and Charlie are right up there too! :D

6. Can you define 'young'?
I like Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and generally all types of swing music; which, I might add, was the music of my parents' generation.

7. To quote Homer Simpson...
Music reached a state of perfection in 1974, and I tend to agree with him...I enjoy much of the music from the time period of the mid 60s to the mid 70s. Since I wasn't born until 1984, I'd say that covers a lot of bands!

8. I love all kinds of '60s garage music
Stuff recorded between '65 and '68 in particular (I was born in late '68, so I don't think I qualify as 'young' anymore).

I also love lots of early blues and R&B music. And really, really early music, like Hildegard of Bingen's chants. :D

12. The Beatles, Lennon's solo stuff, Cat Stevens, The Clash, Nick Drake,
The Velvet Underground, The Smiths, Elvis Costello, Nico, Simon and Garfunkel, Big Star, The Kinks, early Bowie...

come to think of it, most of the stuff I listen to was from before-my-time.

Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 05:09 PM by name not needed
Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, AC/DC, The Clash and some more I can't think of right now. I'm only 16 which might explain some of the bands I listed.

16. The Stooges, "Kind of Blue"-era Miles, Django, Sabicas
I was born in '69, which was right at the tail end of their first line-up (Iggy Pop, Ron & Scott Asheton, Dave Alexander). "Funhouse" (1970) is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Other favorites include late 50s/60s Miles Davis, jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, and flamenco guitarist Sabicas, whose greatest work was done in the 60s & 70s.
