The reason liberals embrace tolerance is that this is a complex society. If you go down the path of intolerance you get bloodshed. No one said the liberal path was easy. Even tolerance oppresses though as exemplified by the NeoCons and their building up of hatred. Liberal tolerance effectively oppressed their intolerance and now they have boiled over and for a time have made it permissible to be intolerant. Trouble is that with such an attitude it will either fade in time or bring down the society.

Its much more fun to run around claiming you are right. Trying to walk the difficult line of embracing all cultures can be down right tiresome sometimes. But you know what? Its the right thing to do. Its hard. Its difficult. It is wearying. And if the society doesn't get it then its game over. Race riots. Collapse of the social contract. Segregation. Religious dominance. Loss of rights. These are the things the difficult path of liberalism keeps us from. This is where intolerance would take us. Careful, for that way there be dragons.

I can respect those of them who respect me.

If we all respected everybody else, it'd be just that much easier to get this country moving again. And we all know the liberals ARE the correct ones; we have doubt only because we try to understand the different points of view.

The band "X" had a brilliant song about that; how we learn what not to do, then our children learn the right way, but their children get corrupted, and the cycle begins again.

The only problem is; I think the cycle has been disrupted somehow.
