Andy Griffith Show fans--Why? and who is your favorite character?
I love TAGS. Why? It was not the typical silly sitcom but had well written and drawn out characters. For instance, Barney Fife, is a bumbler and full of himself, but on many occassions Don Knotts the actor who inhibits the role gives the character real feelings and meaning. It is not your typical one note characterization but a fully realized three dementional character. All of them are that way.

My favorite character? I guess Barney, but without Andy--Barney couldn't function. And we know how important Barney was to TAGS too, the three seasons he wasn't on the show certainly saw the qaulity of the show diminish, but it was still better than many other shows.

My favorite episode, "Opie the Birdman"--Andy and Ron Howard were great together in those father/son episodes.

3. Oh, my favorite was Barney, also.
Although I had a soft spot for Otis. A town drunk who voluntarily locks himself up...who couldn't like that? :-)

My favorite episode was the one where Aunt Bee decided to enter her pickles at the county fair. It was just a sweet episode...

7. Floyd the Barber
Look what he inspired from Kurt Cobain:

Bell on door clanks, come on in
Floyd observes my hairy chin
Sit down chair don't be afraid
Steamed hot towel on my face

I was shaved, I was shaved, I was shaved

Barney ties me to the chair
I can't see I'm really scared
Floyd breathes hard I hear a zip
Pee pee pressed against my lips

I was shamed, I was shamed, I was shamed

I sense others in the room
Opie, Aunt Bea, I presume
They take turns in cut me up
I died smothered in Andy's butt

Did you notice that here was a show in the early sixties with a successful independent SINGLE! career woman. And she wasn't a bimbo or a shoe in for everything Andy wanted to do too.

The next successful independent SINGLE! career woman on TV would be Mary Tyler Moore.

There are none today. I don't count the Sex in the City bimbos, too obsessed with getting married.

12. There were two professional single women.
The other was the owner of the pharmacy, played by Eleanor Donahue.
