I pledge to NEVER say SPANKEES or SPANKS or YANK MES or SPANK MES again...
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 04:20 AM by AmyStrange
Let the following be enacted into sports law this 21st Day of October 2004:

The best thing about the Red Sox beating the Yankees this way is that saying "1918" and "Buckner" and "Bucky" and "Boone" won't have the same affect anymore.

1918 always bothered me and yet didn't really... atleast not since 2001 and again in 2004.

I said all those words in the subject line because it was an inadequate way for me to respond to a deeper frustration in me. The Yankees have stepped down from being Gods to being humans like the rest of us and that not only enlightens me, but bothers me also.

I bow to the Yankees and their fans and Steinbrenner for mostly being good sports during all this and would like to extend a tentative olive branch to the yankee fans here and now with the offer to retire all these names because they are no longer needed.

They are forever cursed with this distinction and they can never be spanked or yanked about again,

3. My God.............
you'd think the Red Sox had just won their 26th World Championship to hear you folks talk. I know you love to gloat over beating the Yanks, but let's be realistic. When the Red Sox win their 26th World Championship or 9 World Championships in a row, then I'd say you've got something to brag about.

I wouldn't get too big of a head here, there's still the little matter of beating the Astros or Cardinals in the World Series. IF the Red Sox can beat either of those teams and actually win ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW then I suppose some sort of congratulatory effort will be made on my part. Until then, curb your enthusiasm, It's SO unbecoming. Of course I'd expect nothing less from a team and their fans that have grown inured to losing year after year.

I'm now wondering HOW the Red Sox will blow it this year. Will it be another Bill Bucknerese dribbler through the legs? Will it be Pedro getting tossed for head hunting? The myriad ways the Red Sox have devised for choking in the big games are legendary. I can't wait to see how they do it this year and once again destroy any semblance of pride and happiness that Red Sox fans enjoy in this fleeting moment of triumph. Ten days from now I will be hearing the plaintive cries of Red Sox fans everywhere; WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!
