Drummer debunks rumours of band re-uniting...
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 03:12 PM by HOWLIN_WOLF
The Pink Floyd fan grapevine is buzzing with suggestions that Roger Waters may return to the fold, 20 years after his acrimonious departure, for a reunion tour which could net $100m.
<snip>

"There is no chance of that happening. I don't think there is any reason for Roger to rejoin the fold and I am not sure that David would be happy with that anyway", said Nick Mason, Floyd's drummer and longest-serving member.

How disappointing. Having seen them in '73,'77, and '94 I would most definitely shell out the big bucks for a fourth time.
COME ON GUYS...you're a bunch of old geezers, and so is your fan base, of which I am one. Stadiums filled with old geezers isn't a bad thing, you know! Besides...I would wager that you could double that $100m estimate! :headbang:

1. Hell, I'm only 20, a huge Pink Floyd fan,and I'd love to see them reunite.
Especially considering that Beatles reunion is looking less and less likely.

2. At least it wasn't Ringo who said it.
There's still hope.

7. Well...
I last saw them in '94...with several of those "hired hands" along, but when Gilmour tore into the solo on "Comfortably Numb" it blew me compltely away...showing why he is surely one of the top 5 all-time great guitarists.
If you can find the "Pulse" video anywhere, grab on to it. It's the '94 tour of which I'm referring to!

8. If they stopped in Ames, IA, in Aug or so, I saw that same tour. >
And I agree with you on Gilmour's playing.

4. $100 Million...
Can definately make musicians and pop stars forget what they were angry about.

They could make this work, if they wanted to do so. The question is: are they sufficiently adult yet?

Remember: we are talking about pop stars here. You and I, we grow up because we have to. Pop stars do not. The really big, successful ones spend their whole lives avoiding the vicissitudes of adulthood like the plague.

You can take that to the bank.

9. I say leave it in the past.
I don't look forward to seeing a 20-piece ensemble fronted by four 60-year olds calling themselves Pink Floyd.

11. I'd pay a week's salary to see them reunite with Syd, though.
That would be a riot

12. I saw the '94 tour as well
and speaking as a Pink Floyd fan since 1973, I gotta say they stunk.

Gilmour kept forgetting lyrics, the sound was muddled and too bass-heavy, and it was generally a mess.

Actually, I'd love to see just the four of them - no theatrics, minimal lights, no backup singers or players (except tapes) - playing 'Obscured'/'Dark Side'/'Meddle' era music.

I think Mason was being generous - there is slightly less than no chance in hell that Waters would ever drop his ego-grudge against the others and climb back onstage with them again. That bridge is burned and has collapsed into a million pieces at the bottom of a very deep chasm.

I'd be delighted if they did, but just can't see it happening.

13. Roger has come a long way in the past two decades
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 03:52 PM by Beware the Beast Man
There was a time when he would fume over the mere mention of Pink Floyd. That was pretty evident when he refused to cooperate in the writing of "A Saucerful of Secrets." At least nowadays he grants the occasional Floyd-related interview, and even does a few Floyd songs in concert.

15. Yeah, I'd say
a couple decades of indifferently received solo work has softened his position, evidently.

16. Never happen
And I don't know as I'd want it to.

Pink Floyd, IMO was the best band ever and I wish they had a larger body of material. However, things happened, it ended and I can't see any reason for re-uniting. They've all moved on and it wouldn't be anything more than a soft echo of the original.

I will continue to listen to all my classic Floyd, remembering what was, and thankful for the time we had.

18. What is really sad is...
that David Gilmour has now relegated himself to studio and session musician...for the most part. I guess that's not really too bad though, considering he does an awful lot of work with another familiar name...Paul McCartney.

17. Gilmour wouldn't let it happen.
He's currently making ALL the money there is to be made off of Floyd, save for publishing and performance royalties to the other band members for everything prior to "Momentary Lapse." He collects all the royalties and concert fees while keeping Mason and Wright on Salary. Why bring a big name back into the fold and have to split the money up any further? He's just another greedy dick, like every "hippie" who ever actually made a dime.
