Am I the only one on the planet who detests the Doors?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 08:15 AM by Archae
My neighbor was listening to the Doors on his truck CD player, I told him I never did like them.

From all accounts I've heard, Jim Morrison was an asshole, and an even bigger asshole when drunk and/or stoned.

So my neighbor has "The End" on his CD player and I tell him it's simply boring.

"It's poetry, man!" :eyes:

You're not alone.

2. I REALLY like the Doors
Not to say that Morrison was a nice guy, though...

3. I wouldn't say I detest them...
...but I don't think he's some sort of poetic genius or prophet like many seem to think. They just have some cool tunes.

4. No you aren't.
I find them pretentious and way overrated. There's only so much keyboard and fake-poetic lyrics that I can take.

6. I can't stand Morrison. The other three are good writers and musicians,
but Morrison kills it for me.

7. I like The Doors.
As a teen, I idolized Jim Morrison even though he had been dead for quite some time. The rebellion really appealed to me, growing up in a religious household.

8. Hate 'em
I saw them in concert around the time of 'Strange Days' and they were truly awful. Morrison was in a corner of the stage, tripping, and the band was just jamming, for whatever THAT was worth. Morrison would wander within range of the microphone occasionally, yell some crap, and wander off again. And it went on forever...

The lyrics, supposedly the high point of the band, are so lame it's embarrasing. The fans were always a little TOO obsessed with the mother-rape thing, "Listen, he actually says it!!!". Blech.

10. Can't listen to them any more
I used to like their early stuff back in the 60s. But I can't listen to 60s rock anymore. Heard way too much of it back then.

14. A solid musical combo with a literary hack frontman.
I agree with Wat, they were all excellent musicians, Morrison was a passable vocalist, but the whole "musical theatre" aspect of their concerts was pretentious.
