15. Given the incidents that have happened recently
I'm not so sure I disagree with taking some caution.

It's ugly looking for sure, but with over 55,000 people there I might feel a LOT safer if I were a member of the Red Sox.

Ask that KC coach whether he would have minded having extra police on hand right before he got beat on by a fan.

24. Throwing stuff on the field is not just baseball
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 10:57 PM by Mojambo
You're correct that it probably would have happened in other ballparks but that does not excuse it or make it a part of the game.

It should be looked down upon as unacceptable behavior. Because it is.

28. If you're the umpire who made the call
and you're standing less than 50 ft away from thousands of people who have already shown that they are prone to violence your opinion might be different.

I'm not saying it was the right call. I don't have enough information to decide, but in the end they were only out there for 10 minutes.

Remember, they weren't sent out there without provocation. Fans were chucking dangerous missles towards players and umpires, that's pretty serious so they they reacted (perhaps overreacted) to keep it from escalating.

I can see where their concern was coming from.

29. How did all of the Yankees fans get baseballs to chuck at the field?
In the dozens of baseball games I've attended, I've never brought a baseball.

But I totally agree with you. I just knew that there would be Yankees fans bitching about a "police state" (which we do live under, btw) when, really, the prescence of the riot cops was definitely warranted as to guarantee the safety of everyone at the field.

Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 10:48 PM by Mojambo
At least do it after a REAL controversial call.

They are displaying massive ignorance of baseball rules by getting upset about a call that was VERY correct.
