Origins of Rap question:
The old song "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang ripped off the bass hook from a disco tune called "Good Times." I've tried to channel my inner Peaches and Herb but I can't for the life of me remember who did "Good Times." Can anyone help a brother out?

1. C'est Chic
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 06:29 PM by no name no slogan
Nile Rogers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (Bass), and Tony Thompson (Drums). And two other wimmen on vox.

Tony and Bernie later turned up in Power Station (believe it or not), and Nile is a bigtime producer. And still a badass funk guitar player.

2. Is it Chic?
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 06:31 PM by shylock1579
on edit: You may already know, but at discos there would always be a break where people would come out and dance to just the baseline (like you mentioned, sugarhill gang takes the baseline from Good Times). People began making up words to just the baseline, which is where rap sort of originates. But another caveate: The dancing during the break at these discos? Thats the origin of break dancing.
