4. I argued about this last year...
... on a Bruins email list I've been a member of for years. It doesn't matter how much the yankees suck. If they play the Sox in an important game or series, they believe they will win, and the Sox believe they will lose. What's important about this (from a psychology of performance perspective) is an orientation to either winning or not losing.

It's a bit of a psychological problem. The way one focuses on goals will help one achieve or not achieve, as the case may be. Focusing on winning (as the yankees will) will allow them to behave in ways that will help them do that. Focusing on not losing will hurt the Sox as they will not be doing the things that help them win.

It just has to happen once to break the cycle though (see for instance the Bruins curse-breaking win over Montreal in 1988).

Most people on the Bruins list thought I was full of shit though. ;-) YMMV.

This is my 30th season of Red Sox fandom. It would be nice to celebrate.

6. you should give one to stewart too
That was him I believe who made that great play in left but Joe Buck was so amazed with how Posada tagged up, :eyes: he robbs Sierra of a double or more and Buck talks about how great of a play Posada made by tagging up.

10. No collapse!!
I would love to see them win one of two in Boston to end this and then rest up the starters for the Yank Me's/Twinkie winner.

11. My BF is.
And he's in a much better mood when they win, so I root for them too! :) (Not really much of a baseball fan myself.)

He is also rooting for the Yankees at the moment because he hates them so much, he doesn't want the Sox to go to the World Series and NOT play the Yankees.

My opinion of those two teams matched up: it appears to me that the Red Sox, when they are as good as they can be, are better than the Yankees. But the Sox don't play consistently awesome like that, they are streaky. The Yankees, on the other hand, are always consistently good. So if the Sox give them an inch, the Yankees will take the proverbial yard.
