Hahahaha ha. I got carded last night at the Tiger game
I'll be 48 Monday. My buddy, Mike B, said "well, you were wearing your jock jacket, it was dark and she probably didn't get a good look at your face."
All of which might be true, but I still got carded. I responded "hey, I've got a pretty face."
And Tanisha (the gal who carded me) said "You DO have a pretty face."
I tipped her a dollar. Made my damned night, I tell ya.
John
The Tigers lost to Tampa Bay, 4-1, but who cares? I've got a 25-year-old daughter and I got carded last night.

2. Hell. I live 100 miles from the ballpark and Mike was driving
I'd have to find a hotel room (not a big problem in downtown Detroit), I'd have to find a ride home afterwards and then I'd have to explain the whole thing to Polly. The third part is the trickiest one.
Too damned complicated. Better to bat my eyes, blush and smile brightly and float around six inches off the ground the rest of the night.
Mike B was jealous (I could tell). And I got to gloat all the way home.
John

3. That's the way to go !
Doing the right thing is better everytime.
I can't believe you guys drive 100 miles to see a ball game ! Comerica is a beautiful park, although the name irks me. Sounds like you had a good time, so it was worth the ride.
Peace, JOE

4. It was our sixth trip of the year (and, alas, our last for the season)
Finished three up (Indians, White Sox, Mariners) and three down (Yankees, Twins, Devil Rays). But last year, when the Tigs went 43-119, I was 1-6 and Mike was 1-5.
Plus, I didn't get carded once last year. Maybe I'm improving with age.
John
Likes to think so, anyhow.

5. I only went to one game...
and I live 15 minutes from the stadium !!! It was a beautiful night in early June, and we spanked the Marlins !! A full house, perfect weather, Pudge stole second, on and on, a perfect night !
A HUGE improvement over last year, no doubt. I see playoff games in our future.

6. Well, should the Tigs take the last two this weekend
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 01:39 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
We'd have improved by thirty games over last season. Improve by half as much next year and we'd be right in the middle of the AL Central race.
That's a lot of "ifs." But Ilitch did say he was going to open up the wallet again this off-season. There are a LOT fewer holes to fill this winter (I'd start with middle relief) and the Tigs finally look like they've got some youngsters who may become real major-league ballplayers.
John
Hope springs eternal. And, win or lose, it's still Tiger baseball.
Maybe we'll see you at the ballpark.

Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 02:08 PM by 4morewars
if ya want, although you will hit some traffic in the AM going back through Detroit. Maybe we can make a plan. My wife and I wanted to go to your funday this past summer, but we had other commitments. Maybe we can make it next time ? Do you ever come down for Lions games ? I know single game tickets are hard to come by. We were at Ford field a few weeks ago for Laborfest 2004. John Edwards spoke, it was great ! Here's a pic:

8. Haven't been inside Ford Field, yet
Though I watched it go up on the web. Some people will tell you that it's the nicest stadium in the NFL and I have no reason to doubt it.
The best part about travelling to games with Mike B is that he doesn't drink (at all -- like he's never had an alcoholic beverage in his life). So I can have a couple and not worry about it. The game ran about 2 hours and 20 minutes last night and we were back in Saginaw by about 11:30.
One of these trips, most likely when I drive down solo, I very well may take you up on the lodging offer -- MSchreader, my old buddy from here in town who I haven't seen around the DU of late, lives over in the Grand River/Lahser area and I've got a standing invite from him, too.
John
For your schedule, it is now 258 days, 20 hours and 49 minutes to FUNDAY XI. Looking forward to meeting you -- then, if not sooner.

12. I haven't been carded in fifteen years
Truth is, I generally don't even carry ID any more. Thank goodness I did last night or I would have gotten NO BEER!!
My first reaction was to get pissed -- but how many more chances am I going to have to yank that ID out any more? Somehow, I got less upset than I would have at 23. Go fig.
John
It is now one day, 23 hours and 51 minutes until I am 48. If you find yourself in the greater Saginaw metroplex, come on through and have a brewski. I'm buying.

15. What a nice birthday gift--a couple days early!
Holy cow, John, you can't seem to go anyplace without getting hit on by the girlies--I swear! Must be all that clean living you've done...
Um...well, anyhow...

Haven't seen you on here much lately and I'm glad you are still knocking them dead! Say "Hi" to Polly and the rest of the gang for me!

Happy birthday--hope it's a great one!

Laura

Just to get you up to speed: Mom had surgery on her kidney and all is going fine. Dad had more open heart surgery and he's recovering. Kev is running a good race in his election, and my new job sucks but pays the bills. That just about sums up life for the past four months.
