i need support in CENTRAL TEXAS BUSH COUNTRY
i just went to this teensy tiny little democratic headquarters in town with the sweetest oldest folks in it today, and boy did i hear about it..

a couple inside said.." we like donations, but at this point we are just SO glad to get anyone who will display a kerry sign that if u have nothing to donate that is quite alright..chances are good it will be stolen...etc" this was a wonderful, elderly woman who stood up in bush country,...the HEART HERE NEAR CRAWFORD, and I could sense how alone she must have felt. She asked me to please come back this month so that we could talk...and you bet i WILL. My grandmother was a major Roosevelt supporter, and this lady reminded me so much of her...i digress but....

I donated five bucks that i had on me, took me a kerry edwards sign, and promised to send more friends and family to the tiny little spot in Belton with the cool signs for Kerry and other Democrats. I have YET to meet a fellow Kerry supporter where I live. I am in a rural area, so that doesnt help much..BUT...I LOVE confrontation and love the chance to piss off my Repuke neighbors...hey whatever I can do to help...and am SO hoping that I help others to overcome their fear of rabid blind bush support..

reporting from the nastiest place in the world, half an hour from the 'ranch'..where supporting our troops and NOT supporting the administration is like worshipping the devil:puke:...even our car dealerships use bush and our troops to advertise..enuff to make u sick, and im diligent in my efforts regardless....its lonely, but SO worth it yall...if a sweet old lady can do this, then i SURE can...

7. With people like my family in Harker Heights
it will never happen.

My Mom has however seen the light. She was a Bush Republican...now she is for David Cobb. Thank the lord she has seen the light.

12. I used to swim in Lake Belton when I was a kid living in Temple.
One of my favorite places ever.

2. I'm probably a little too far south to provide help
But I can report that I've seen quite a few Kerry/Edwards signs in my corner of Hays County. And I don't think that's just because of Texas State - I think there has been a general change in demeanor among a lot of folks out here. I come from Montgomery County, so I know Republican strongholds - my county didn'teven have a Democratic party. It's a relief to see any signs of sanity.

4. You're in a tight spot (as if you didn't already know that)
Aways back, pre-Bush, I lived more-or-less in San Marcos, worked for the state health dept under Guvna Anne. Chin-up - there's folks around you who haven't told you yet, but they may eventually - that they respect the way you stood up for what you think is right. Some of them will eventually agree that you were right all along.

And at the end of the day, you KNOW you're supporting the right person.

5. i DO know that my support
for Kerry is unpopular and sparse where I live...I will still be vigilant and never swerve my support...and it is because while I post little, I read LOTS hear at DU the past two to three years, and KNOW my STUFF...because of yall..

its NOT that i am a staunch kerry supporter..it is that i am liberal and progressive at heart, and am proud of what i stand for..kerry just happens to be damned good at what i want represented now.....so as my signature says below...

6. I received a nice letter from the Crawford Peace House
www.crawfordpeacehouse.org

I sent them a donation, after hearing about how hard they've been trying -- not just to convince people there to change their minds about Bush's record, but to reassure those with doubts that they're not alone.

I can only imagine what it's like to be opposed to "Dubya" in an area which he claims is 100% in support of him (even though it isn't true). A friend in Alabama says that it's similar in her town. Kudos to you for sticking to your principles, Texaslady! (I hope those of us who are in strongly anti-Bush areas can spare a thought for our brothers and sisters elsewhere, who are facing a constant barrage of ill-will from those who ought to be respecting their ability to take a stand!)

10. Things will change in Texas
It might take a generation, but things WILL change. The Southern Babtist strangle-hold will start to leave bruises, and when folks in the country and the suburbs begin to realize just how bad conservatives have been for them, the pendulum will being to swing the other way.

Of course, this is assuming the wingnuts haven't COMPLETELY destroyed waht's left of what was once the best educational system in the nation by then.

13. Hang in there, texaslady

Life among the uncivilized is always rough and you have my admiration for persevering out there Where The Wild Things Are. There is salvation in wilderness, that is the oldest American faith, but also very real violence and ugliness that often obscures- eclipses- the good. I've been to west Texas three times and can remember my surprise each time at the the beauty of the land- and at the same time an astounding grotesqueness to some of its people.

In four to eight years demographics will catch up to the vile present form of the Texas Republican Party. Unfortunately, until then they'll cling to power without much apparent conscience or moral principle. I hope us out here in Gore and swing states can get you a little relief on the federal level of government before then, though.

Keep up the good fight :)
