Schwarzenegger wants an NFL team in L.A.
California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proved he is serious about bringing a NFL team back to Los Angles, signing a bill Thursday to help boost the redevelopment of the Los Angeles Coliseum, according to the L.A. Times.

Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 2805, which essentially aids the Hoover Redevelopment Zone by committing specific tax revenue to the stadium project.

It is important to note the money generated can't be used on the stadium specifically, but it could defray the cost of surrounding infrastructure by $25 million to $30 million.

However, Schwarzenegger's willingness to sign the bill in the first place seems to give a fairly clear indication of his interest in bringing an NFL franchise back to Los Angeles, the nation's No. 2 media market.

2. I love football but....I think cities spend too much $$$
To attract NFL teams to their city - and usually with little payback.

Oakland spend millions trying to get Al "Darth Raider" Davis to move the Raiders back to the city. They rebuilt the coliseum and spent a lot of $$$. In turn, Davis brought in all LA, scab workers to do the rebuild, and then the city saw ZIP in return. People don't stop in Oakland when going to a game, they stop in nearby Berkeley or Hayward.

5. Yeah, yeah, yeah, "They'll be BAAAAAAAACK!" ...
"Only girly-men take their team out of Los An-chuh-les!"
"It's NOT Amani Toomer!"

I understood the NFL won't touch the LA Coliseum with a 100-foot-pole under any circumstances, but hey, Arnold has a lot more insight into musclehead thinking than I ever will.

14. That's my understanding also, no Coliseum for Tagliabue
I love old stadiums and my alma mater is smack across the street so I'm used to area and all the unusual potential. But a relocated NFL franchise wants a sweetheart deal and how the Coliseum and Exposition Park fits into that equation I have no clue.

6. Fuck Schwarzenegger.
That son of a bitch is a republican veto machine who is taking kickbacks from prescription drug companies, and he also vetoed four out of five bills to protect against fighting wildfires in the future. This is coming on the heels last years disastrous fires in California.

Yeah, but give the people bread and circuses, that's what's important, eh Arnie?

8. So, if he wants it that bad, and it is good for the area and all that
shit, how come he don't front the money for it?

It is not like he don't have it.

9. Right. The Hoover Redevelopment Zone.
I guess you could, if you wanted, send an NFL team there, where I'm sure that money would be well spent. Why, someone could make 8 dollars an hour, 8 hours a day, 8 days a year.

The spirit of the Hoover Administration still lives in the Hoover Redevelopment Zone.

PS. I like football. However, I also know that football will exist with or without tax breaks, and letting a city go to shambles to scrape up the cash for a football team is the antithesis of civic pride. If I were LA, I'd spend my money on useful stuff, and just call the Raiders my team.

10. LA is a terrible pro football town
Size of media market be damned if the fans don't show up then the NFL won't move a team there. LA fans don't show up until you start winning or you won the championship the year before, NFL owners hate that. Fans in Green Bay, Cleveland and Buffalo show up at everygame and sell out everyseat(unless it is the end of the season and the team is having a miserable year). This why the NFL will not move a team to LA and in my opinion they'll put the next pro team in either Alabama or Portland.

But...Kansas City Kansas and Missouri have a million or so people and the Chiefs are 0-3. Next home game the same 70 THOUSAND will be filling the stands to capacity.

13. What else is there to do
Fans in Green Bay, Cleveland and Buffalo show up at everygame and sell out everyseat(unless it is the end of the season and the team is having a miserable year).

In Green Bay, Buffalo, and Cleveland in November and December?

15. Watch the stands at a Packers home game played in December
There'll be a foot of snow in the stands, the cheerleaders will be dressed in their best Eskimo outfits and there'll be a fucking Zamboni out on the field getting it ready for the second half, and there won't be an empty seat in the stadium.

When you live in the middle of the snow belt, you learn to make accommodations. Bring your huge coat and a gallon of soup, and you're set.
