A DU LoungeLizard's Guide To Proper Copycat Threading

Hello.

As a long time member of the DU LoungeLizard's club I would like to provide a public service announcement regarding the 'young' DU tradition of "Copycat Threading". You see friends, there are some Do's and Don't(s) to PROPER and SUCCESSFUL Copycat Threads, and due to the declining quality of recent copycatting episodes, I feel that you could use my expertise.

Note: There are some here who despise ALL copycat threads. While they have valid arguments, I maintain that certain copycat threads have their place. I hope tonight, to clarify what copycatting is acceptable and what is not.

Let's take an innocent example.

Let us say that an ORIGINAL thread title is the following:

I Like To Play Pong
Innocent enough and perfectly acceptable for the Lounge. Might even compel someone to reminisce about their early video game days. But, a thread such as this is BOUND to illicit SEVERAL copycat threads.

Assuming you feel compelled to copycat the above thread, you might start the following:

I Like To Play With Thongs
Acceptable: Look. ANYTHING that has to do with sex/thongs/sex/underwear is VERY acceptable! ALWAYS. So, THIS would be an appropriate copycat thread based on that criteria alone.

I Like To Smoke My Bong
Again. Perfectly acceptable. Sex + Drugs are WONDERFUL and therefore, THIS would be a good copycat thread title.

You Mother Was Just Plain Wrong
This is borderline since it does not deal with either sex and drugs, but may just be witty enough to pass muster. See, we here in the DU Lounge thrive off of wit. This thread could spark nasty insults or sexual innuendos so in this case, it is acceptable.

Now, what is NOT encouraged:

I Like To Sing A Song
Who the fuck cares? We ALL like to do that and frankly, if you start this thread, you probably CAN'T sing! Guess what? This is the INTERNET which means WE DON'T WANT TO AND CAN'T HEAR YOU ANYWAY! Stick to the shower-singing and leave us alone.

I Am Never Wrong
Yes you are and frankly, starting a lame copycat thread with THIS as the subject means you have never been more wrong than you are at this very minute.

I Like To Play Along
Who the fuck cares? Go play with yourself! You suck and you didn't even start a creative thread title telling us WHY you are about to masturbate.

THIS thread combines sexual innuendo with a friendly slap at another DUer. THIS IS ALWAYS WELCOMED!! If you can combine copycatting/sex/DUers/slams, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A GOOD COPYCATTER!!
