Guilty movie pleasures?
Okay, I admit it. I am female and I love exactly the sort of movies that perpetuate the "sappy girl" stereotype. My favorites are romantic comedies like Bridget Jones' Diary and When Harry Met Sally.

I know these aren't good movies! But there's something so fun and soothing about watching them. I cringe whenever someone looks at my DVD collection.

What movies are you ashamed to love?

1. I love Lethal Weapon movies!
Even though the end to #2 was the dumbest thing I've ever seen...

2. Which one was 2?
Is that the one that Mel gets shot on the freighter ship at the end of it and Danny comes to save him?

After getting hammered. Great mindless late night entertainment. I can't wait until it's about $5.99 on DVD.

4. I think they'd pay you to take it.
:)

It was sort of like Mad Max from what I remember. I really didn't think it was that bad either. Certainly not half as horrible as, say, the recent Catwoman with Halle Berry.

5. I think Bridget Jones and When Harry... are good movies
At least, they aren't something to feel guilty about liking.

I will always watch some of "Steel Magnolias" when it's on TV... now THERE is something to be embarrassed about!

6. Ha ha!
How about Fried Green Tomatoes? That one's pretty bad too.

As far as Bridget Jones, I think the main reason I like the movie is, Hugh Grant is so sexy in it! I don't usually find him hot, but he's such a bad boy in that one, I just love it. :)

What's your opinion of the upcoming Pride & Prejudice movie?

With Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett & Matthew MacFadyen as Mr Darcy:

44. I've seen that actor in other movies and thought he was good
and he IS cute... But I feel like the TV version is such a classic - why does it need to be re-made already? :P Especially because Jennifer Ehle was PERFECT as Elizabeth and Keira Knightley just doesn't seem right to me. But hey, I'll definitely go see it! :)

19. I think both those movies are very good!
And I am a straight male! I love both those movies.

Even still, staying on topic, I love Point Break. It is awful and stupid and yet once a year I pop it in and quote the entire script as I watch--"Just waitin' for my set...Vaya Con Dios, Man...The Expresidents are surfers!!!..."

I love One Crazy Summer. Horrible movie but my first night out after my mom died in '86, and therefore the comedy I give the most slack to.

And then there are the Bad Movie Tuesday movies, movies I watch with friends that are awful, but entertainly awful: Black Dog with Patrick Swayze, Great Balls of Fire, From Justin to Kelly, Frankenhooker, and in the shute for this month, YOU. GOT. SERVED.

Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 02:23 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
a lot of blokes are kind of ashamed to own up to lapping up Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns, until you start raving about them. Then they'll start quoting bits of dialogue:

"Ha! ha! ha! No-one gess away with double-crossing Tuco! Ha! ha! ha!

"Didn't you know? Everyone has a guardian angel, even a dirty scoundrel like that. That man has a golden-haired angel looking after him at all times".

"How d'he wear his piece? Was it like this? Or this-a-way? Why that would be Colonel Douglas Mortimer! A bra-a-a-ve soldier! He was the colonel of a regiment of sharpshooters in the Carolinas..", etc., etc. And now he's reduced to bounty-hunting like you!"
