Poll question: What song perfectly describes our 'Texan' pResident?
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 09:15 AM by Richardo
We've seen him clearin' brush at the Lazy W Ranch, wearin' a dinner plate sized belt buckle and boots, and decked out in plaid shirts we can still see the new-shirt creases in...

What song goes through your mind? (This is to get Bridget Burke's response in another thread more 'airplay'...)

This does it for me:

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande,
But my legs ain't bowed and my cheeks ain't tanned;
I'm a cowboy who never saw a cow --
Never roped a steer, 'cause I don't know how,
And I sure ain't fixin' to start in now.
Yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay, yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay.

I'm an old cowhand from the Rio Grande,
And I learned to ride 'fore I learned to stand;
I'm a ridin' fool who is up to date --
I know every trail in the Lone Star state,
'Cause I ride the range in a Ford V8.
Yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay, yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay.

I know all the songs that the cowboys know
'Bout the big corral where the dogies go,
'Cause I learned them all on the rad-ee-o
Yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay, yippie - yi - yo - ki - yay.

I myself prefer the Dan Hicks version of this song.

7. No Missing Link - Dan Bern
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 09:24 AM by ET Awful
They looked for the missing link
There's no missing link
They'll never find the missing link
There's no missing link
We're not something
You can figure out with an equation
We are the genetic mutation

Aliens came and fucked the monkey
They fucked the monkey
Aliens came and fucked the monkey
They fucked the monkey
Aliens came and fucked the monkey
They fucked the monkey

8. "Time's Up" by the Donots (off Rock Against Bush)
They try to keep you scared and small
Telling you the world ain't safe at all
Gotta smash the smokescreen
Don't swallow the lies they feed
They wage a war that's based on greed
Don't believe your TV
Gotta know your enemy
We're the kids
We're quite aware
Of the rotten smell that's in the air
The power games have got to stop
Time's up,
Time's up,
Time's up
People die
people lose their hope
Cheated by the man who cut the rope
Watch the world fall down-down
I guess, it must be nice up there
But did you really think nobody cares?
Gotta step down-right now
Time's up-we can't take anymore
No more,
No more,
No more
We're the kids
We're well aware
And we ain't gonna sit around and stare
A fact's a fact
Enough's enough
Time's up
Time's up
Your time's up now

9. Son of Orange County / Frank Zappa
Originally about Nixon but the sentiment fits nicely

And in your dreams
You can see yourself
As a prophet
Saving the world
The words from your lips
(I am not a crook)
I just can't believe you are such
A fool

I just can't believe
You are such a fool
I just can't believe
You are such a fool

10. Rodeo Cowboy
Yeah, I work all week just to make a draw,
Sometimes I don't ride 'em at all.
But I'm hooked in and I got to ride that train.
When I get down in that chute,
I can't keep from thinkin' about all that loot,
I'm a ro-do-o de-o de-o cowboy
Bordering on the insane.

CHORUS
That's why I drink a cheeseburger, eat a six-pack
Take a Darvon to kill the pain.
Pay thirty-two fifty just to take a fall,
I live through it to tell you 'bout it all.
I'm a ro-de-o de-o de-o de cowboy
Bordering on the insane.

Now, relax and take a deep breath or two
It's a one time shot and then you're through
Hang on, boy, and someday you'll have fame.
When they open up that gate
The bull takes off like a runaway freight
And you're a ro-de-o de-o de-o de cowboy
Bordering on the insane.

That's why I eat a cheeseburger, drink a six-pack
Take a Darvon to kill the pain
Pay thirty-two fifty just to take a fall
I live through it just to talk about it all
I'm a ro-de-o de-o de-o de cowboy
Bordering on the insane.

The cobwebs sure are thick, what's goin' on?
I feel like all my circuits are blown.
I can't remember my number or name.
Gimme a beer or two and I'll feel fine,
'Least it's worked every other time
Cuz I'm a rodeo de-o de-o de cowboy
Bordering on the insane.

I like the Jerry Jeff Walker version.

13. Blood On the Saddle by Tex Ritter
Although * is afraid of horses.

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

A cowboy lay in it all covered with gore
And he never will ride any broncos no more

Oh, pity the cowboy, all bloody and red
For the bronco fell on him and bashed in his head

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

16. Dare to be Stupid-Weird Al Yankovich
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 10:29 AM by EstimatedProphet
Sums up the whole administration

Put down that chainsaw and listen to me
It's time for us to join in the fight
It's time to let your babies grow up to be cowboys
It's time to let the bedbugs bite

You better put all your eggs in one basket
You better count your chickens before they hatch
You better sell some wine before it's time
You better find yourself an itch to scratch

You better squeeze all the Charmin you can while Mr. Wipple's not around
Stick your head in the microwave and get yourself a tan

Talk with your mouth full
Bite the hand that feeds you
Bite off more than you chew
What can you do
Dare to be stupid

Take some wooden nickles
Look for Mr. Goodbar
Get your mojo working now
I'll show you how
You can dare to be stupid

You can turn the other cheek
You can just give up the ship
You can eat a bunch of sushi and forget to leave a tip

Dare to be stupid
Come on and dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Let's go

It's time to make a mountain out of a molehill
So can I have a volunteer
There's no more time for crying over spilled milk
Now it's time for crying in your beer

Settle down, raise a family, join the PTA
Buy some sensible shoes and a Chevyrolet
And party 'till you're broke and they drive you away
It's OK, you can dare to be stupid

It's like spitting on a fish
It's like barking up a tree
It's like I said you gotta buy one if you wanna get one free

Dare to be stupid (yes)
Why don't you dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Dare to be stupid

Burn your candle at both ends
Look a gift horse in the mouth
Mashed potatos can be your friends

You can be a coffee achiever
You can sit around the house and watch Leave It To Beaver
The future's up to you
So what you gonna do

Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
What did I say
Dare to be stupid
Tell me, what did I say
Dare to be stupid
It's alright
Dare to be stupid
We can be stupid all night
Dare to be stupid
Come on, join the crowd
Dare to be stupid
Shout it out loud
Dare to be stupid
I can't hear you
Dare to be stupid
OK, I can hear you now
Dare to be stupid
Let's go, Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid
