1. Age?
My niece had hers removed a year or so ago, she's 20. It was great, alot of eating problems she'd had are gone. My sister had hers removed several years ago, she was 45 or so. She gained about 50 pounds. That's alls I know. Did it help?

3. A coworker just had his removed.
He was out of commission for about a week, and had to be under supervision during that time (mostly friends/roommate). He's had to really cut down on the fatty foods, of course. Other than that (and a bit of weight loss) I'm not too sure about major lifestyle changes.

Sorry to hear about, but I know for a fact you don't want to pass one of those stones.

My mother AND my sister both had theirs removed in 2004. I'm beginning to think mine should be causing some problems by now

8. Had mine out last year, not many changes
Few more trips to the restroom now and then but what a blessing, no more abdominal pains. Good luck, PM me if you have any questions about the surgery.

9. My wife's experience
My wife started having abdominal pain a couple of years ago. It would be really strong after eating fatty foods. She went to her doctor, had all the standard tests, but the doctors didn't think anything was wrong with her gallbladder. They eventually decided to just remove it because my wife was still having issues with pain after eating foods with fat. The surgery took a couple of hours, but she ended up staying the night at the hospital (they wanted to discharge her the same day but she wasn't feeling up to it) and I picked her up the next day. She had some pain for a few weeks but she was on her feet again in about two days. The surgery was successful and her issues with fatty foods were resolved. She's glad she had it done.

10. laproscopy
If it is advised you have it removed, see if you can have it out via laproscopy-they were experimenting with it in 2001, and if it is approved, it's less hard on you, your system recovers more quickly.

what you should expect if you do have a gall bladder prob and it is removed, is relief, by all accounts....

11. Be careful! Might not be gallbladder!
They thought mine was gallbladder since I presented with all of the regular symptoms in the normal places. Ultrasound came back negative though so they ordered a cat scan. It came back negative too.

Pain was still there though. One night it got worse and went down the right side of my abdomen so I went to the ER because I was tired of hurting and because the pain had expanded. After another cat scan that night they realized I had a perforated ulcer. I had emergency surgery that night.

I had absolutely no symptoms of an ulcer. The only time I ever, ever had acid indigestion was when I'd eat pizza. Never any other time.

My pain was located on the upper fartherish right side up close to the smallest rib and it on occasion would extend around to the back. It felt like really terrible spasms. I got them if I ate, if I didn't eat, no matter what I ate.

So, if your ultrasound comes back as being normal, pester them. I spent 9 days in the hospital and 4 of those were in intensive care because of possible peritonitis and pneumonia.

I'm not trying to scare you. Just don't let them shrug their shoulders if your ultrasound and/or cat scan come back showing it's not your gallbladder.

12. Both my Aunts had it done
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 02:29 AM by sffreeways
they were fine afterward. Some recovery time but they were so relieved to not have that awful pain and suffering. Hasn't you doc given you something for the pain ? I think some vicodin or some percosette is what my Aunt had and it helped.

I hear that and kidney stones are the worst pain imaginable.

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I hope you feel better soon.
