national league wildcard race tightens up..

W L PCT GB E#
Chicago 87 68 .561 - - -
San Francisco 87 68 .561 - - -
Houston 86 70 .551 1.5 6
San Diego 84 71 .542 3.0 5

While most folks on the board obsess over the boat race that is the AL East, there's some serious ball being played in the National League.

Chi Cubs lose to the Metropolitans, 3-2
Houston beats the Brewers in a classic pitcher's duel, 11-7
Dodgers up over San Fran, 6-3 in the 7th
Padres victorious over the D-backs, 7-1

My Pads are the longshot, but they have a crucial 3 game series against the Gigantes, then 3 more against the lowly Diamonbacks in Arizona to close out the season. There is a glimmer of hope.

5. that was sweet!
the world series was so anti-climatic after coming from the trouncing the cubs had given us for those first two games and then sweeping them to take the pennant. i was at all three games and actually yelled so much i lost my voice, much to the delight of my pals, i'm sure...

2. if the padres could avoid snatching defeat from the jaws
of victory, which has been their MO since the franchise began, they really would stand a chance. they sure surprised me this year, bless em.

4. I think that honor safely belongs to the the Astros.
I'll be very surprised, to say the least, if they make it out of the wild card playoffs!
