ALL SUMMER IN A DAY by Ray Bradbury...
I just finished doing that short story with four Language Arts classes last week.

Florida is starting to feel a lot like that fictional Venus colony: the forever rain that pours in constant torrents accompanied by hurricane winds which abates only for an hour or two every seven years while the colonist live in underground bunkers connected by tunnels.

Okay, it isn't that bad yet. And there is no "underground" in Florida: you dig down eight to twelve inches and you hit water. And we did have three weeks (give or take a day or so) of sunlight between Charley and Frances and Frances and Jeanne.

But I'm afraid to look at my feet. What if I find my toes are getting webbed? And what is that urge to croak along with the tree frogs?????? :scared:
