So I was at this evangelical church...
and the pastor started to talk about Karla Faye Tucker, the woman who was sentenced to death in Texas and converted to Christianity on Death Row. The theme of the day was John 8:1-8:11, the story of Jesus and the stoning of the adulterous woman. He (the pastor) was talking about the people who wanted to stone her, and how their sin was worse.

For a second, I thought he was going to talk about how Bush had mocked Tucker in that magazine interview, and call Bush a hypocrite. No such luck. Ah well.

1. Isn't it in bad taste to preach politics in church?
My gay-friendly MCC (that gets vandalized all the time) did after 9/11. Pro-* politics.

I haven't gone back since. Nor will I.

7. Please tell me more about this...
I did quite a bit of research on the UFMCC at the end of the 90s, and I am frankly amazed that anyone in that organization would have been spouting pro-* politics. It certainly seems that the UFMCC has gone beyond Rev. Perry and Dr. White.

2. And yet, methinks that if Karla Faye had found Allah in prison
The good pastor wouldn't have given her execution a second thought.

4. Nah, he probably meant that the adulterous woman was symbolic of
rightwing christian zealots, and how the people who wanted to stone her were people like John Kerry and Michael Moore, for asking questions of the government, and other liberals who want all religion removed fom the face of the planet, especially Christianity, because they fear it and hate it.

6. that's a good lesson
makes me think of those sick shows like "Ricki Lake" where they parade these people in front of an audience hurling abuse at them for all the things they've done wrong.

8. Actually he started by talking about Jimmy Carter
Apparently, Carter once claimed he had committed adultery in his heart, and evangelicals jumped on him. I had never heard about this.

9. You must be young
Carter was interviewed by Palyboy magazine back in the 70s and admitted this. The repukes went crazy over it!!

10. those were such innocent times, huh?
Seems kind of quaint now about that flap, and Carter has become a giant in his years since the presidency.

Meanwhile, Repukes just rot on golf courses or steal elections for their evil spawn.

11. But it doesn't hide the truth that Carter and Clinton were sexual sinners
And that's the worst sin ever, ever, ever in the whole wide world. Even in the universe.

Sexual sin - even virtual or theoretical - is a hundred bajillion times worse than murdering innocents, including women, children or babies. Sexual sin is even worse than lying to your stockholders, destroying the pension of millions of people, or denying healthcare to veterans.

No, there is nothing worse than sexual sin.

Unless you're Newt Gingirch, Jimmy Swaggart, Pat Robertson, Jim bakker, Ron Reagan, George HW Bush, Rush LimpDick, Ann Coulter, etc.

12. im kinda glad he brought up an example of the hypocrisy
which is exactly what the verses are that he referenced - showcasing "current" examples of how Jesus is about love and not condemnation, unlike certain texas governors who mocked karla fayes God.

i dont like too much politics in church, but i do think its important for people (pastor or parishoner) in church to talk about God as all loving and is neither republican nor democrat...
and that just like in the bible, its the politicians who claim ownership of God, are the ones showing their true colors
