Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 07:03 PM by nu_duer
I've never seen this flick, but heard about it, here and elsewhere.

Heads up for others who want to see it.

On edit - TCM is Turner Classic Movies.

2. One of my all time favorites.
Sheer brilliance from Peter Sellers, G. C. Scott and Kubrick.

3. "Survival kit contents check..."
"In them you'll find:
1 .45 caliber automatic;
2 boxes of ammunition;
4 days' concentrated emergency rations;
1 drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills;
1 miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible;
100 dollars in rubles;
100 dollars in gold;
9 packs of chewing gum;
1 issue of prophylactics;
3 lipsticks;
3 pair of nylon stockings.

Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff."

4. Have you spotted the bit part player, currently a very well known actor?
Great line: "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here... this is the War Room!!"

11. Yes, that is a Sellers line
(about not fighting in the War Room).

It will be on again tomorrow night at 6 p.m. Eastern for those who want to catch this bit of classic trivia:

The scene where Slim Pickens lists the survival kit contents was filmed very shortly after the JFK assassination, therefore it was decided it would be tasteless to have him say "a pretty good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff. . ."

So, "Vegas" was dubbed in for "Dallas" later. Pretty easy to spot now that you know what you're looking for. :)

Yeah, awesome movie. Paranoid lunatics wreaking havoc with monster bombs. Seems. So. Familiar.

I'm going to check it out again at 6 tomorrow (and not be on the net at the same time).

:)

16. Sterling Hayden (aka. General Jack Ripper) did a great Freeper...
And the scene with Peter Sellers as Capt. Mandrake is a classic.

18. Peter Sellers was originally slated to play four parts in the film:
President Muffley, Group Captain Mandrake, Dr. Strangelove, and Major Kong. But he couldn't master the accent, so the part of Major Kong went to Slim Pickens. It's a good thing, too; Sellers was a great actor, but Pickens was hilarious in that part.

32. Oh, that low camera angle?
Kubrick loved that angle; it's recurs in some of his later films...

When the writer hears Alex singing in the bathtub in A Clockwork Orange,
when Jack is in the storage room in The Shining...

The ride down on the bomb at the end.

The screenplay for Dr. Strangelove was, I believe, by Kubrick and Terry Southern.
