My argument/near right with middle aged freeper while tabling for YD
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 11:11 AM by noahmijo
I tabled ALLLL day for the Young Democrats at the UofA yesterday. Just some quick background, the guy that was with me was a Gulf War I veteran, and is extremely passionate about getting Bush out. His angle as you may guess is going after freepers by demanding they enlist if they love Bush so so much.

His name is John by the way.

Needless to say between the two of us we are unstoppable :)

So anyways, this middle age guy comes up to our table shaking his head and grinning that freeper grin "wrong guy wrong guy" he is saying.

I refuse to let him walk away I say "well why don't you come here and tell us why you think he's wrong."

He says because Kerry is no leader, Kerry waffles too much.

Already expecting to debunk any "flip flop" I ask "how has he waffled he's never waffled unlike Bush"

The guy says now getting angry "In 1997 he supported invading Iraq with NO UN support and now all of a sudden he doesn't?"

Truth is he caught me off guard with this one, I never heard of this, BUT I know that EVERYTHING the Republicans have said so far is a lie, so I confidently said I never heard him say such a thing, I bet whatever you're saying here is a case of his words being twisted as they always are by Conservative groups."

He of course continues to insist that I'm covering for Kerry and says go look it up go look it up.

Well I DID look up later on and it turns out I'm right:

http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=36916

Then John steps in and asks the guy why doesn't he go sign up or if he has kids have them sign up since he believes in Iraq so much.

The guy says "well I WAS there in the first one."

John says "oh really what were you?"

The guy says "What were YOU?"

John: "I was in the Army, I saw combat, I was in Basara" ::He went on to tell him about what he saw"

guy: "Well I was Navy Intelligence"

So then I just had to ask "So you believe that Iraq is becoming a stable Democracy? you feel the deaths of over 1,000 soldiers were worth it given the fact that nothing is being accomplished?"

guy "It takes time build a Democracy"

John: "Well what if the people don't want a Democracy what if they want say an Islamic nation, what if they want Saddam back"

Then I said "Sir are you aware of the sort of Democracy that is being built in Iraq right now?"

guy "no I just know it's a Democracy"

Me: "Well are you aware that this puppet government of ours that we've installed supports Sharia Law, which in Nigeria is being used to justify stoning women who commit adultery? last I checked we're trying to track down and capture or kill Islamic militants, and given the fact that this government seems to be favoring a system that invites Islamic Militants I'd say we have made things worse"

guy "Well I HATE John Kerry because he's pro-choice!" (typical the asshole changes the subject)

Me: "So I assume you're pro-life tell me what is so pro-life about sending a thousand plus soldiers to die and be mained for a war based on a lie? what is so pro-life about that?"

Me: "Wait you said you have kids, would you be willing to sacrifice them for Bush's war?"

guy: "Yes I would"

Stunning isn't it?

Me: "Well sir you are a sick man and I thank God you are not my father, I feel sorry for your poor children"

The guy then got really close to my face and pointed his finger at me and said "YOU'RE SICK"

Then John stepped up

John: "Whoa wait a second, I don't wanna be too hard on a fellow veteran here"

(The way he said it was pretty obvious that he had something up his sleeve)

John: "So you never told me what unit you were in?"

The guy started to walk away.

John: "Wait what ship were you on?"

The guy kept walking away

John: "You lying sack of shit!! Why don't you just say you're a Republican and you support Bush because you know it's not your ass, you know you wouldn't send your own sons if you even have any, instead you gotta come here and lie to my face, about being there??? How dare you? how low are you filthy Republicans willing to go? DON'T COME BACK HERE ASSHOLE!!"

Have I mentioned how much I love this guy?

Anyways I HATE guys like this the most. Know why? because these lowlife bastards like this guy will proudly cast a vote for Bush which to me is a vote that says "fuck you kid I'm willing to send you off to a war which in my warped mind is making my old ass safer"

This is why I hate and confront older people who support Bush. They are without shame saying they'd sacrifice my life and any young life just so that they could have some phony feeling about being part of some grand Empire that's on a quest to bring down evil.

Sickening just sickening I tell ya.

2. Congrat! You and John did a great job! But what do you say to
the older guy who really is telling the truth? My BIL was in 'Nam, got out, went to college, and re-enlisted in the Marines, and served 24 years. He had 2 sons and 1 SIL serve in the Marines too.

He is totally pro shrub! He simply doesn't believe any Dem can be a good Commander in Chief!

I'm asking because I'd like some hint on how to have a comeback to him when we get into this same discussion.

4. Well with someone who is legit then I say stick to the facts
Point stuff out like the fact that Iraq is fast becoming an Islamic extremist hotbed, ask the guy to point out what good is being done, and they won't have a good response if response at all, it's the whole Nationalist view that is instilled in military people especially I'd say a Marine.

What I would say to someone like that overall would be that given the fact that nothing positive in Iraq has been accomplished, 1000+ soldiers are dead this president has no strategy if so tell me (he won't be able to because the president indeed has no strategy) I don't feel it's right that young people such as myself should have to go off to die in a war that is accomplishing NOTHING.

Oh we're stopping people from being tortured? that's what it's all about? well then I suppose we better invade basically the entire middle east, Africa, China, Russia, North Korea, because torture happens in those areas too! (plus mention the fact that the reason Saddam used torture was primarily against the radical Sunnis and Shiites who fought eachother and created problems for Saddam, and given that they do not fear death torture was the only way for a dictator to keep them under control)

But overall I don't even care if the person is a real vet, I don't care if they call themselves God, by supporting Bush they are saying to me point blank that my life is worth shit and it's worth seeing my guts spilled on some street of Iraq so that they can sit back with a steak and be entertained by images of this war nothing more.

5. My Aunt had that arguement with Vietnam Vets
They were all bashing Kerry for what he did after vietnam, how he disrespected the troops.

My Aunt (huge cajones and high school alumni with the vets) told these guys at the VFW "Have you read Kerry's transcript to the Senate?" He saved you guys. He told the Senate and the President that we were in the wrong war and how could they ask any man to die for a mistake.

If you go find Kerry's testimony against vietnam it will help you shore up your arguement.

If you want to defeat that Bush is a great commander in cheif, focus on the prison scandal, or the fact that Bush has not gone to one funeral for the dead.

BTW, me friend told me SHE HAD TO REGISTER FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE!! When did that change where women had to register as well as men? That is something for your friends to think about. When bush starts the draft, it is not just your sons, it is YOUR CHILDREN!
