How much do you tip delivery guys?
For pizza and stuff. In restaurants I know the 20% rule, is it the same for food delivery? More? Less? I'd lean towards less... but that's just me.

1. I used to be against tipping them
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 01:18 PM by HEyHEY
Because, really all they do is knock on your door and hand you a pizza then leave. Then I found out they get paid shit because they're supposed to get tips - so now I do.

2. My average comes in right around 20%.
Most of the independent, non-corporate pizza places I order from require the delivery driver to use his/her own car; who knows how much of a mileage reimbursement they get.

3. depends on the size of the bill
if it's a 10 dollar pizza, i'd say 2 bucks. if it were a 20 dollar order, probably give the guy 3 bucks (i.e. it's not that much harder to deliver more). if it were a 50 dollar order, i'd probably give 5. just my .02, don't know if there's a real rule...

4. I ususally only give them $2.00
I probably should give them more, but that's what I've been giving for a while now.

5. More...If They Are Using Their Own Vehicles...
true they are probably getting some remibursement but it is just a drop in the bucket considering, oil changes, new tires, wear and tear and the current state of gas prices. I usually do 25% for home delivery.

7. $2 is a standard rule I think...
Not too little, not too much.

Now if someone is carrying large items for you, a $5 or $10.

9. $3

Here's some tipping guidelines. I tip a standard $3 for food delivery. I live in NYC and any place I order from is within 6 blocks.

The rule for home delivery here says 5% to 10% of the bill. To me that seems very low.

10. Tip at least 20%.
Remember that is where they make most of their money.
And remember how much time, work, gas, etc. they are saving you.

12. i always tip heavy
Edited on Fri Sep-24-04 02:26 PM by jukes
was a bouncer for several years; waitrons of any type *earn* those tips! delivery guys have a rough job, some danger, lot's of wear on their personal cars cause time=money; so if i'm too lazy to go out, i tip pretty good: 30% rounded up to the next $.
