27. Yes. Unpleasent critters they are.
Think 15 lb sewer rat.

Sorry. Just never warmed up to fuzzy-wuzzy image when it comes to ground hogs.

They'll kill dogs you know? Do you know this?

They'll lay into your dogs jugular in half a heartbeat.

They get really fat and the waddle when they run away from you. I've seen them sitting too close to the road without fear too.

I have a guinea pig, so I happen to like that rodenty look.

30. And I bet you've never seen your beloved pet in a live and death battle...
...with one.

I have. The 15 lb (actually more like 30) rodent tried to kill my companion.

I cheered when he won. I heard him snap the rodents back.

Someimes you do have to fight.

It was him or it.

18. Did you know...
...that, not only are Chipmuks real, but they can swim? I'll head off any queries of potential animal cruelty by explaing how I discovered this. A violent storm (I live in Western New York) blew a gutter pipe off my house. While cleaning up tree limbs and other rubbish I went to retrieve the gutter pipe which was lying near my quarter acre pond. When I picked it up something made a hell of a lot of noise inside it, I panicked and flung it and a Chipmunk FLEW through the air and landed in the pond. My first thought was one of relief, then it was, "Oh great, now I have to rescue a rat-with-racing-stripes" since I'm a bit touched in the ol' haid when it comes to animals, vermin or not. Before I could do anything else, the little guy was swimming away from me to the far side of the pond. He made it, collapsed on the shore for a few minutes and ran off. I'm sure he got his revenge by wiping out my entire Crocus population.

Woodchucks, aka Groundhogs, are cute in a funky kind of way, but murder on gardens. They're also notorious for building dens with many entrances in livestock fields, resulting in broken legs for cows and horses. Cute - but a major pest.

20. Criminey!
I always knew city folks were a bit different, but LOL!

They're real. I almost hit one the other day. When we have them on our property, they make a real mess. They dig holes.

You need to get out more. That is, if you're not kidding.

Your'e kidding, right?

21. Thank you so much for the laugh
Laughing with, not at. I'm coming in late but I really needed that tonight!

Is a woodchuck a groundhog?
Yes. The woodchuck, Marmota monax, is also called the groundhog or the whistle-pig. This rodent is a member of the squirrel family, and is found across Canada and in the northeastern and midwestern United States. The western United States is the home of its closest relatives, the yellow-bellied marmot and the hoary marmot.

"Whistle-pig"?! Dammit, I wish I could change my user name easily. That's just too funny and quite frankly apt for me.

my SO just asked what I was giggling about and I showed him this link.
He said the same thing about woodchucks not being real and we're both from Missouri!! There must be a whole lotta woodchuck/groundhog/marmot and now whistle-pig type confusion going on in this grand mid-west of ours. lol

:D

There was one's head hanging in a local restaurant, and I made up a huge bullshit story about them.

29. I've got to tell you guys - I was HERE for this one
we saw a woodchuck standing by the road gnawing on something, and I said, "hmph - woodchuck." And she replied, almost indignantly, "SHUT UP!" Which started the whole conversation, which ended when I told her several times over that woodchucks are, in fact, real. So we get home and the topic comes up again, and I asked her, straight out, after we had settled the woodchucks matter and before she posted this thread - "do you know if narwhals are real?" She google image searched them and STILL didn't believe they were real. Seriously - the woodchuck thing doesn't even scratch the surface of the oft-unintentionally comedic brilliance of the one you call "dolo amber."

"Innocent" enough to not believe in woodchucks. Yet woman enough to tame the mighty special-ed-powered shortbus, sort of. It's some kind of thing, I tell ya.
