Okay...so am I the only freak who has never seen Star Wars?
Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 08:15 PM by KzooDem
Heard today that all the Star Wars movies were going to be released on one DVD. Which reminded me that I have yet to see ANY of the Star Wars movies.

I was in junior high when the first one came out and avoided it precisely because my peers were following one another like lemmings to see it. C3PO...Yoda...Chewie....Darth.....all seemed like a bunch of science fiction nonsense to this probably much too serious 14-year old.

So hence, I never saw the sequels. I've never cared for science fiction and have never been one to flock to see a movie just because the masses are doing so.

I'm not ciritical of people who love Sci Fi and are Star Wars afficiandos.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who has never seen Star Wars. I feel like a cultural Tasaday man or something! LOL!

6. awww.. duckie
Tucker says to see the first two, at least. The third one is pretty cool, too, but has some cloying aspects that are annoying.

5. yup
the first two are definitely worth seeing... or at least they were worth seeing in the '70s. The special effects were awesome at the time, but now they look sorta cheesy.

I'm not, and never was, a big sci-fi fan, but I LOVED the first Star Wars. It was just a great flick, and I was 16 at the time, which was a great age to enjoy it.

7. Hey, I thought I was the only one!
I haven't seen any of them either. No interest either. Thus far I've also avoided the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies.

25. LOTR is wonderful
if only for the gorgeous visual shots of New Zealand. If you like the story, even better.

9. I have only ever seen the first one. (1977)
It was OK, but really didn't capture me or my imagination. Doctor Who was what I got into.

11. You're not alone
Although I have seen "Return of the Jedi" (dragged by my niece), I have never seen the original "Star Wars" or "Phantom Menace." Not really interested, I guess.

12. Go get the DVD.
I myself am avoiding it like the plague because I'm a purist and I feel they've just drawn a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

but the films are still pretty good and fun to watch. It'd also be interesting to see them through fresh eyes 25 years after the fact. It'd make for good rental.

16. I'd have to say
If you were the type of person who didnt enjoy just being entertained
for entertainments sake in the 70's then you probably shouldn't watch these movies now, your head might explode. Sometimes movies are just popular because they are entertaining, not because they are intellectually stimulating or politically motivating.

19. No....you are not.
My only lapse was when the first movie was being shown -- a number of years after it came out -- on a long plane flight. I watched maybe 1/2 hour and then picked up a book.

:boring:

knew about to be ruined by an over-the-hill ultra-rich out of touch dork George Lucas

26. seems like George will keep tinkering with them til he dies
they do look pretty beautiful, though, the colors are really pristine and clear in comparison with the old prints.

However in 1979 I used to run my dog by a drive-in theatre and saw the swirl on the big screen.

27. I've only seen it once...
I believe it was the 20th anniversary of the original's release (1997?)

I've never seen anything mind-blowingly amazing about it. I'm not big into sci-fi, although I do like some types of fantasy.
