I was thinking about this today, for some strange reason. What albums originally made you scratch your head and wonder what the artist was thinking, but now you love?

Mine:
Barenaked Ladies - Maybe You Should Drive
Todd Rundgren - No World Order
Roger Waters - Amused To Death

1. Pet Sounds
Well, it's not that I didn't care for it, it's just that I wasn't expecting to hear a pop symphony when I put it in my cd player. I had kind of a "well, that was unique" feeling after listening to it.

Now, I've come to appreciate the complex melodies and song structures, as well as the profoundly existential themes that permeate the whole cd. I still hear things that I've never heard before in that album and I've listened to it probably over a hundred times. Classic.

4. Beach Boys - Love You
Fucking hated every song on there the first time I heard it. Now I love every single one--it has a powerful 'grow on ya' effect. 'I'll Bet He's Nice' and 'The Night Was So Young' rank among Brian Wilson's greatest.
