What childhood lie still makes you cringe?
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 01:48 PM by Tom_Foolery
When I was a kid, I had to wear those big, clunky corrective shoes. Of course, I was picked on because of it. Toward the end of my 4th grade school year, I started telling everybody that my doctor had decided that my ankles were so deformed that he was going to paralyze my legs. Well, during that summer, my doctor decided that I could quit wearing my corrective shoes for good. When school started back in the fall, everybody wanted to know why I wasn't paralyzed. I still cringe when I think that I actually told that lie.

1. A simple lie
My dad was dying when I was about 12 years old. He was a single parent and my uncle and I were taking care of him. Well about a week before he passed I returned late from being at a friends house and I lied told him that my bike had a flat. I never told him the truth.

2. I had menigitis in the summer of 5th grade
and lost a lot of hair for some reason. When I went back to school and kids asked me what happened to my hair and why was it so thin, I said my older sister pulled it out. :0 I guess I thought that made me sound 'tougher' or something but I never told my sister and always felt kind of guilty.

3. 2 Lies come to mind
1. around age 12, i toLd some of my friends that i had a girLfriend (my sister had given me a cLatter ring. i was wearing it the "wrong" way and one of them caLLed me on it, so i bLurted out a Lie). there was a girL i had the biggest crush on, so i had said that it was her.

eventuaLLy, word got back to her and she threw a huge fit about it (this was quite a few months Later) and made sure everyone within earshot heard how disgusting she thought i was.

2. for no apparent reason i toLd my parents (again around age 12) that i had won a trophy in some goLf tournament i was in, but because i wasn't around at the end, i didn't get it.

so my mom feLt so bad she started doing research and contacting peopLe to find out about my trophy, and actuaLLy got the cLub's pro to Look into it. there was an exchange of phone caLLs and such, and i finaLLy had to break the news that i just made it up.

so i cringe at both of those.
