Encounter with a Bush supporter
My wife works at a book store and she told me this story.

There was a lady looking for one book in particular. She walked up to one of the clerks and asked him.

"Excuse me, where can I find 'Unfit for Command'?" (An anti-Kerry book.)

The clerk responded. "He's sitting on Pennsylvania avenue in Washington, DC."

The lady stormed out, furious. About an hour later her husband called and demanded to speak with the manager. Well, in the end, this clerk will be attending a disciplinary hearing. I hope he doesn't lose his job.

1. ROTFL!!
What a brilliant rejoinder to come back with. HA HA HA!!!!

Sorry to hear about his disciplinary hearing, though. That sucks. If I were the manager of the store, that clerk would be employee of the month. :-)

6. Borders
I'd rather not say which store, for obvious reasons.

Overall, it is a very left leaning town, and the store is frequented by - and most of the employess are - what the Right would label as "Libruls." You know, mid 20s to early 30s, urban professionals, latte and cappuccino, arts and music - things that Rush and Coulter tell their followers to look out for. I'm surprised a Bush supporter would walk in there without feeling uncomfortable.

3. promote this man, immediately!
Promote him to "talking head" on CNN, replacing Judy Woodruff.

12. Well I guess it's a good thing...
that not all bookstore owners are "partician."

Bookstores have historically been hotbeds of free thought, free spech, and free ideas.

If I owned a bookstore, I'd have hired that kid on the spot.

10. love the line!
Hope the clerk doesn't lose his job.

I butted heads a bit with my dad this past week. Went out to Minneapolis for my parents 50th anniversary. My dad is sooooooooo conservative he makes Limbaugh look liberal...

ennywhooo -- normally I try to avoid discussing politics with my dad, we are both very much cemented in our views and any discussion turns into a pissing contest

wellll, he made a comment about Kerry being a "girly-man" -- I couldn't let it pass -- so I asked him....

"Which is more of a girly-man - the guy that served his country and was in combat or the guy who's daddy got him a safe place to 'hide' from combat or the guy who received 5 deferrments and avoided serving all together?"

he just hrrrumpphhed and went back to reading his newspaper

18. Great job!
Amazing that bushie's supporters can somehow block his obvious cowardice from their minds.

Sad, too... for our country.

19. They are freaks
Any person that can tolerate the trashing of Kerry's service record while simultaenously downplaying the importance of Bush's actions at the time really does perplex any sane person.

And yeah... any time some sane person gives them a glimpse of reality (which they're insulated from by corporate media), it's cause for celebration and rejoicing.

15. Her HUSBAND had to call ???
what the hell is wrong with her if she feels slighted?

makes me NUTS when a woman has to have a man stand up for her or do her dirty work.

btw: this is the best comeback I've heard in a long time. The kid needs to be promoted.

17. I noticed that too...
I fight my own battles, thankyouverymuch, especially over the phone.

It was a good comeback -- probably something someone isn't supposed to say on the job, but a good comeback nonetheless.

21. I hate to play devil's advocate here, but if I was that manager I'd have
to side with the Bushie. If you're a bookstore employee, it's your job to help customers find the books they want, even if the book they want is nothing but lies and half-truths. You should show them the book they want, and then if you want you can recommend some other books that are more truthful. No matter how witty the employee's retort was, it's still the responsibility of an employee to help the customer, even if she is a Kool-Aid drinking sheep.

24. As someone who works retail
I have to laugh. I've bitten my tongue on more than one occasion to keep from coming out with an "inappropriate" response. That was a great line.

What cracks me up is that she stormed out and had to have her HUSBAND call and complain. Had it been me (not that I would have wanted that rag), I would have chuckled and repeated my question. Big deal!

And if I was really offended, I'd do the complaining myself and in person. People are so weird.
