1. Sure, if you like your food to be 50% sodium and 50% fat...
I used to like these things until I took a good look at the label. But who am I to talk? I ate a hot dog today.

3. OMG IT IS GOOD
BUT ITS SOOOOO BAD FOR YOU!!! SO many preservatives...you know that little packet of powder you put in before you boil your water?? You're essentially just eating that...pure sodium, fat, preservatives, and MSG. I only indulge in it rarely, and when there's absolutely NOTHING left to eat in my pantry.

Didja know you can do a passable imitation of Cthulu by dangling a wad o' ramen noodles outta your mouth?

16. When I was a sophomore in college, my roommate and I went down into
Chinatown and got a crate with like a gross of ramen noodles (a Chinese variety, with the evil spice pak).

Every night around 10-11 PM we'd fire up our little plug in water boiler and have us a bowl o'noodles. We did this for like the whole year.

I loved it, but after a while, it was years before I could look at the stuff again.

21. It's not the best, but
think of how many people got a meal because of Top Ramen. It's cheap - one of the cheapest meals you could make. I don't recommend it every night of the week, however. But for those who are on a tight budget, it can be a lifesaver.

However, it's probably better to only use half the seasoning pack. Add a tiny bit of soy sauce to make up for the missing preservatives. Add a few vegies, like some sliced water chestnuts, maybe some mung bean sprouts, a little sliced purple cabbage, and you've got a banquet!!

22. uptown Ramen....
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 10:35 PM by mike_c
1 package Ramen noodles, any flavor.

3 prawns, shelled, or some thinly sliced raw meat

2 cups good meat stock (chicken, lamb, beef, etc)
1/4 cup Mirin (sweet rice wine)
1 tsp aged hatcho miso (essential ingredient)
1 tsp japanese soy sauce
1 tsp Hon Dashi or an equiv. amount of another instant dashi
2 scallions, white and green parts separated and chopped
4 pieces of wakami seaweed, midribs discarded, cut bite-sized
1-2 Thai bird's eye chilis, thinly sliced

Simmer the stock, Mirin, hatcho miso, soy sauce, instant dashi, and chilis, stirring often until the miso is dissolved. Add the wakami and the white parts of the scallions, simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Discard the "flavor pack" from the Ramen noodles, taking appropriate hazardous waste precautions. Bring the stock to a boil. Add the prawns or other meat and cook for a few seconds, then add the noodles. Stir after one minute or so and turn off the heat. Cover and let stand for three minutes or so to soften the noodles. Sprinkle the chpped scallion greens on top. A squeeze of lime is good too.

on edit: fixed a couple of proportions. Who measures?

24. Ugh..
I've tried to like any of their "flavors", but I can't do it.

So I ended-up pretty much living on those 88-cent Banquet dinners. Nuke 'em for four minutes, and there's a meal! Chicken pasta, chicken parmesan, etc. It gets repetetive, but it also fills the stomach..

Use Milk instead of water
Add some chopped onion
Add some sliced mushrooms
Toss in an egg
Add some parsley (or basil) and the seasoning packet
When egg is cooked, add noodles
Add Sour Cream & Parmesan Cheese
(Will thicken, but De-Licious == And Cheap!!!)

27. Mmm...
They remind me of college :) Favorite flavors, beef or chicken. But I got addicted to adding the premixed sprinkle-on Szechuan spices, and now I can't eat them without! They are super-tasty that way... I know, terrible for you, but good. Like so many foods...
