Backpack advice sought......
I need to buy a new backpack because the one I am using is not working...

Here is what I'd like to carry on a daily basis....

My 12" powerbook
My PDA
A couple of DVDs
iPod
Checkbook
change purse thingy
electrical cords
book
magazines

So, any suggestions? I ride a bike so I want something comfortable. Thanks DU!

I was thinking of a timbuk2 bag

but am not sure. Orvis has a backpack as well

1. You could check the office supply chain stores.

We looked at Office Max (I think that's where we were), we were looking for a briefcase-style case, but they did have some backpacks with padding designed to allow you to carry a laptop. Might have been American Tourister, the briefcase/computer bag we bought is. They weren't terribly expensive, either. The computer briefcase is really nice, we only paid about $40 for it.

2. messenger bag
I have found that it is easier to look back over my shoulder and check traffic with a messenger bag....the backpack never seemed to work for me, I commute on a bike.

4. whatever you decide
take your average day's stuff along and try it and be sure it 1. fits and 2. doesn't kill your back. Most places that sell packs should let you do this...
