Was hammering a rusty horseshoe over my doorway as good luck as Ivan approaches. A piece of rusty iron flaked off and hit me in the eye. I think I got most of it out of my eye, but it's still burning like there is more in it.
It is not over reacting, really. You could have a piece stuck in there and the longer you wait the worse it will get and it is rusty. I used to work in an ER and if people can come in at 3AM with a cold they have had for two weeks and get treated this will hardly seem trivial. Please go, at least they can make it quit burning if there is nothing stuck in there.
I hate to bring this up but if you do have metal in your eye (esp rusty metal) it could leave a rust ring and it could end up being a big ordeal if you wait.
10. The cornea scratches quite easily and can scar, impairing vision.
Debris like rust in your eye isn't really something to play with, especially if you can still feel it in there. You need your eye thoroughly flushed and a limited eye exam to check for damage to your cornea.
8. My husband is a frequent metal in the eye person
He was also big on waiting until it suited him to get it checked out.
That ended when he got a rust ring :(
The method of getting rid of it and the cost is not something you want to deal with! (No he didn't lose his sight or eye but the procedure was unpleasant and involved a drill)
Besides the middle of a hurricane is not when you want to seek medical attention so better safe than sorry!
Don't wait until Ivan hits to decide you should have gone in because then you'll be screwed!
