Why my Ignore List has grown
I like the feature and have come to use it more and more. There are 2 types of posts/people I ignore.

1. Those who are obviously shills for Bush.
2. Those who might be against Bush being re-elected (doesn't matter to me if they are for Kerry 100 percent) but continually post negative, disheartened messages. Not once or twice, say, when the poll numbers are flaky, but as a pattern. If these people aren't shills for Bush, they might as well be.

I'm not some happy-ass that wants to have sunshine all the time, but I'd rather read interesting, constructive, or informational posts than whiners.

2. I have done the same.
Really for my own self protection. I am deeply committed to winning this election. I have allot of anxiety about the thought of Bush winning too. But continuous negativity just pushes my own anxiety into overdrive. Now if I click into a thread with many ignores, I jsut back right on out. I know what is going on there already.

4. I dont ignore anyone.
I can mentally weed out the trash, I dont need a hermitically sealed viewpoint myself.

7. Me too on the Big I.... one thing about viewpoints
I can choose to sit and listen to Fox News/Hardball/Scarborough/WolfB and all the rest doing character assassination on the candidate I choose to support instead of talking about issues; I can listen to them telling me that Kerry isn't defining himself or he's a flip flopper or he doesn't have an answer about this or that, or he's only talking about his Vietnam service and not what he will do for America....... when I know it's complete and utter bullshit. Considering whether I'd like to have a beer or sit down at a barbecue or whether Bush put a big potato in his flight suit doesn't tell me whether he is FIT TO LEAD THE COUNTRY.

Or I can choose to read newspaper articles that talk about the issues and rationally discuss one point of view over another. I can skip over the ones that are defeatist and, instead of perhaps asking for advice on how to handle situations in future debates/conversations, merely want to grouse.

Garbage in, garbage out. I choose not to put garbage in but more relevant and positive materials.

6. I haven't got anyone on ignore
I think we need to combat the negative stuff. If people on this board are feeling that way, then you can bet that there are people all across the country that are feeling that way. We need to fight it.

8. The only problem is responding to some of these trolls just enables them
If people would just ignore them they would go away

12. I'm not talking about people who are obviously trolling
All they get is disdain which is the way it should be. I'm talking about people who are liberals who aren't too happy for some reason or the other.

9. LOL
I JUST clicked "ignore" on the profile of a poster who consistently does just that, almost every post: "continually post negative, disheartened messages. Not once or twice, say, when the poll numbers are flaky, but as a pattern." When I refreshed the screen, your thread was at the very top.

I'm sick of it. I'm new, and already I'm sick of it. I'm not a happy-face Pollyanna either, but if I want to read constant negativity, and the constant second-quessing of the candidate, I could go to Free Republic - they're just as inspiring.

10. I've been here for years
and have never had anyone on my ignore list. If I don't like what they post, I just move on. Most of the time you can tell by the thread title and poster name what a thread is going to be about. I just don't click on it.

14. i dont ignore people
though i can understand why you would want to, especially if they have a personal vendetta against you for some reason. im one of those freaks who WANTS to see the deleted posts; i revel in controversy lol (though i try not to create or contribute to it). and honestly, i find myself just as interested in the ignorance of people. dunno why, maybe so i can research counter-points . plus, there's some sort of primal thing; i dont like the idea that someone could be saying shit about me, and i wouldnt know...:)

15. There is enough negativity/hate being expunged by the GOP,
I don't need to come into the DU and listen to more of the same. I should be able to come here for support in times when the negativity on the outside gets too deep.
Thanks

17. I've never placed anyone on ignore either...
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 08:59 PM by Flubadubya
What if someone I chose to put on ignore actually has something valuable to say someday? If they have been banned from my presence in perpetuity I might miss their reconstruction. What a shame that would be. :)

ON EDIT: Oops, this is supposed to be a reply to post #14, not the original message.
