Must stop playing Alpha Centauri.......................
Played for six hours straight last night, all the while saying: "I'll build one more city and then I'll stop." Meanwhile two hours slip by. I finally had to switch it off and I am considering deleting my savegames so I won't go back to it (yet to do it).

For the uninitiated, Alpha Centauri is a real-time strategy computer game made by the same guy who developed Civilization I and II. The game allows you to be the leader of one of seven competing factions freshly landed in a planet in the Alpha Centauri system.

For a game released in 2000, AC has held up pretty well. And, its addictive as hell. A micro-manager's wet-dream.

2. LOL...I do the same thing with Enemy Territory.
I'll kill one more Nazi and then I'll stop. :)

Luckily, I got a page from a friend and had to stop. I've played all night before.

Until last night, I hadn't played for a month, mostly because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to stop.

6. ouch, I have a similar problem with Locomotion
Transport Tycoon held itself pretty well too, for a game released in 1994. But now, finally a sequel. (although the fan-patched TT1 is IMHO better in many aspects).

7. Sid Meier is a crack dealer.
And so is Will Wright. Between AC, the Civ games, and The Sims, those two guys have sucked away a good chunk of my young life.

I actually just uninstalled The Sims yesterday 'cause I ran out of space on my hard drive and I wanted to play Baldur's Gate. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, lol.

8. Did you get the patch?
Manifold Nexus and Borehole Cluster? Just a couple additional bells and whistles, but neat. Patch is from '99 so I think the game is from '98; your point stands even moreso then of course.

9. Yup, got it...............................
I had to get it so it would run on my Win2000. One of my cities is smack-dab in the center of the Borehole Cluster. Also, I stand corrected on the release date.

I'm glad to see others with the AC affliction. Should we start a support group?

11. The civ games are worthless for one reason-
turns take FOREVER. And sometimes, end up in an endless loop.

I'll take Master of Orion II over any Civ game any day.

12. They do not take forever
I usually take 3 minutes on SMAC late game and maybe 7 or 8 minutes per turn on Civ3 late game. And I don't mind at all.

13. Agreed.
I like that you have time to manage all your resources. If the turns were any quicker, you'd be rushed.
