Is sex really the root of all evil?

Sex itself? Of course not. If everyone was just knocking boots all the time, would there be any war or hate? (There wouldn't be any productivity or food either, but anyway.)

Sex is wonderful, until you strip the situation of empathy...same with earning money, leading a nation and any other thing that one does.

Also in some cases a lack of empathy comes from a small-picture view of events and the world. If you only care about yourself and a few loved ones, you can do a lot of selfish things and not be hung up about it. Yet, if you have too big-picture a vantage, you will be paralyzed, because much of our society is made possible by the subjugation of others, and therefore nearly any act of existing within it would be immoral. As usual, there's a happy middle ground in there.

because some men like status...status means having all the hottest babes and having sex with them (along with other trappings of success)...to have the hottest babes one must have a lot of money....and previous theorems on the need for money clarify that indeed - sex is the root of all evil.
