4. everyone is saying to visit her
but do you really want to go to NC? A day trip to the spa will be relaxing for her, wouldn't require you to make last minute plans to NC, and allows her to say "My son is so thoughtful, he wanted to pamper his mom for her birthday!"

...at and buy her a Gift Certificate.
Tell her you want to know what she buys.
(Even Flowers with the Gift Cert. would make it more personal).
