What can heart attack patients eat?
They sent my father home with no instructions after he had a heart attack. I have no idea what his dietary restrictions are.

The odd thing is he is not overweight at all.

He had surgery the same day the Clinton had surgery.

My thoughts are.... stress, Lipoprotein A, C reactive protein, "Oxidized LDL" and Homocysteine are the real culprits in heart disease.

Take it from a veteran cardiologist who understands the importance of a few key supplements and their importance in reversing or at least minimizing heart disease progression.... do read this site, much info on diet... excellent advice for anyone with this concern.

6. Eating the wrong food
He ate so much fat that I can't understand how he stayed slim for all of these years.

He could polish off a 1/2 gallon of ice cream in one sitting and then eat a package of cookies right after that.

He doesn't drink or smoke but he eats massive amounts of food and he isn't one single pound overweight.

11. High cholestrol does not mean fat. My father has high
cholestrol and his ribs showed most of his life, he was so skinny. Very high metabolism, he ate a LOT....and he's vegetarian....but a lot, lot, lot of peanut butter...like 4 sandwiches of it a day for many many years.

Turns out he had hepatitis when he was young and never knew it; liver damage as a result is likely cause of high cholesterol, from what I understand.

Did they give your Dad any meds to reduce his cholesterol? Just saw new studies indicating that it is very important after a heart attack to drastically lower cholesterol ASAP.

We just had a 47 year old friend die of a second heart attack three days after he was released from the hospital from his first heart attack. They said his arteries were not blocked; it was stress. However, this man, a veteran, in a wheelchair from fibromyalgia, was trying to live on just a few hundred dollars a month...like, $300-$400, while attempting to get SSDI. I understand doctors do not go to extra efforts to save such patients, especially when the patient has donated his body to science (so his family wouldn't have to pay for a funeral).

My son has also received lower than 3rd world class medical care because he is on medical assistance. Long story. Not pertinent here. Hope your Dad has private insurance.

12. They put him on cholesterol medicine
They also put stints into his arteries.

We don't have health care in this country.

Send your son to another Doctor for a second opinion he should be getting better care then what he is getting.

Sorry to hear about your friend dying .

7. I asked them for a book or pamphlet
They sent nothing home with him.

When my Mom found out she was a diabetic they sent her home with a book. It seems like they would give him something to go by.

10. the hospital should have released him
with a diet. They were negligent in not doing so. I can tell you what anyone whohas spent much time in the hospital knows, jello will do no harm. After a while you get really sick of it, but as long as your sugar intake is not restricted, I don't think it can hurt you. Another idea is bananas. They are actually pretty good for you and should be ok as long as your sugar intake sin't restricted. Doesn't the hospital have a dietician? I'd call the hospital and ask. I'd also call the doctor. Sometimes hospitals discharge you without giving you aftercare instructions, and if that happened, the doc should hear about it.
