Ebay: Question about deadbeats.
What do you do about people who bid but won't pay up? Of course you can give them negative feedback, but that will get you some negative feedback right back. Is there any other way to deal with this situation?

1. it's just an "occupational hazard"
--and giving them negative feedback (which I always do) does NOT automatically mean you will get negative feedback yourself. However, even without giving negative or any feedback you can report them via the eBay Nonbidder Report program or whatever it's called--after 3 (I believe) such reports a user's eBay account is closed. Plus you will get your Listing Fees returned to you.

Just relist the item. I have been pleasantly surprised to get a higher bid the next time around.

3. I hate to give up on the guy. I got a really good price on this thing.
It was some old photos of jazz drummers.

This guy has already threatened (in retaliation) to report me for not sending what he claims to have paid for. I've been round and round with this guy for well over a month now. I'm relisting it today and reporting him tomorrow.

11. If I even suspect - I contact ebay and let them know ..in one case
I had bid on a computer. My 'intuition' told me to contact the person before sending money. When I got no response, I contacted ebay to tell them I was not paying and why. They were ok with it. I don't remember the how...but some other bidder contacted me. I think she went through the list of people who had bought and contacted them.

Found out he had not sent product to most people. The ones he did send it to it was over 30 days.

So someone pursued and it was taken to the fraud division of police. The police contacted me. I let them know I never paid so I was not out any money

Other case, someone bid on an item and never paid. I contacted them. I also contacted ebay. I tried several times to get paid. This guy would not pay. Said he made a mistake. This was a buy it now item. He did this to multiple people. I noticed several others either gave him a non paying buyer and negative or a neutral and said not to deal with him.

I decided to give him the negative and non paying buyer. He did come back and give me a negative. I then wrote my comment that he was non paying buyer and had done it to others. He was kicked off after 4 complaints.

With out taking ebay steps you leave yourself open, if you do not file before listing.

The other thing if there were other bidders, they now have the second chance offer, which they didn't when the other stuff happened.

Take the steps suggested by ebay against this person. If there is no transaction in paypal, then it shows he did not pay. If you have not cashed a check, then you are clear. But you need to follow the guidelines.

2. negative feedback BUT wait till the last possible day to do it...
and they may not have a chance to neg you back.

Beyond that, doesn't eBay still give you a chance to respond to THEIR negative feedback, if you're the seller?

5. Follow the ebay guidelines
Definitely file the Non paying bidder forms. After 3 they are kicked off and it helps protect you from retaliation, like them filing a non performing seller charge.

If you do not know how to do that go to either the help button or go to the "community" button at the top of the page, then go to "discussion boards" and then click on "trust and safety (SafeHarbor)" Lots of folks have been in this position. Negative feedback is the very last thing to even be considering. It does nothing but get you negative back.

If it weren't for those assholes I wouldn't have to be eking out a living on ebay.

8. I wish I had a deadbeat bidder problem...
I paid almost $650 for a video camera and the seller didn't ship the item, so now I am having to report it to everyone under the sun, and hope that I get my money back.

12. if you used paypal, I believe you can go back and get it through
your credit card. And since the seller had to set up bank accounts, ebay has information on this. Check out what the fraud part of the transaction allows you.

See my earlier post where others did a Fraud investigation into one seller and the Fraud division went after him.

It really is a trust factor and when someone breaks that it ruins it for lots of people.

9. My wife is a big time Ebayer
and she told me that you can make a complain directly to ebay. The ideal situation is to say that you tried to contact the person in the feedback you write and if the person writes a bad feedback you can explain why you received that feedback.

She always checks the feedback and she knows the difference of a real negative feedback and your case of a negative feedback.

You will be okay!

10. don't worry, bums are too lazy to give negative feed
I still have 100 percent positive feedback and I always give nonpayers a negative feedback if they haven't already been thrown off the board by Ebay.

Be SURE to file for a return of your commission (Final Value Fee) from Ebay even if it's only 5 cents. I am serious. 4 people file for return of fee for nonpayment, and Ebay throws the nonpaying deadbeat off the site. Whereas 400 could place negative feedbacks and Ebay would do nothing. Placing negative feedback is just a courtesy to warn other sellers.
