Anyone ever been to New Orleans for Halloween?

I'm thinking of going this year--any suggestions? One of the gay clubs--The Parade (I believe) is having some sort of "event", but not sure if it's really that big a deal. I think it might be best just to parade up and down Bourbon Street. Should I do it? Any experiences there, or know of anyone? Are hotels hard to get for Halloween, like at other times of the year? Thanks!

2. There is no better place to be on Halloween than in New Orleans.

The French Quarter is like leaving the planet Earth. the costumes are amazing and the voodoo queens are out in force.

Some of the craziest shit that ever happened to me, happened on Halloween in New Orleans. I don't know whether you enjoy chemical enhancement of your party, but if you do, you will be in good company that night.

What type of suggestions are you looking for? As far as where to go, it doesn't really matter b/c it's all a party. People will be in costume all over the Quarter and the Marigny. I love to check out Frenchman street and make one pass along Bourbon for a good look at the costumes.

New Orleans celebrates Halloween like no other city!

There's also the Voodoo Music festival going on around that time. Too crowded for me.

8. I used to live in Los Angeles, and Santa Monica Blvd. used to be one

big parade of costumes and parying. Now it's just a lot of people from out of town gawking at the few costumes there are left.

I want a big party and festive astmosphere! So, I guess just walking down Bourbon Street will do that?

13. Sure! I'm not a huge fan of Bourbon Street BUT

It's pretty interesting on Halloween and not too crowded to walk. I wouldnt limit myself to Bourbon though, there should be a lot of fun places to be. Like I said, Frenchman is a cool alternative to the Bourbon atmosphere. We usually just head to the quarter and play it by ear. Good times...good times :)

5. Just missed Southern Decadence

this past weekend. THis is a HUGE Gay party that happens on Labor day weekend each year. If that sounds like fun to you, you might want to check that out next year as well. It's HUGE!

I thought the leather crowd was relegated to some other bar--whose name escapes me. I went there once, and if I had to find it again, I could, but don't ask me the name or its address. Was it The Phoenix?

11. Halloween in New Orleans..

Is so much fun! My friends and I used to go down to the Parade to watch the costumes- they are amazing. It has been several years since I lived there, but I remember being in awe of the costumes. Actually, anywhere in the French Quarter is a great party!

12. I'm a New Orleans native.

I lived there for the first 18 years of my life and then left for college 10 years ago. And I'll be moving back there as soon as I'm done with this second degree.. Austin is nice in a generic kinda way, but it's pale in comparison to New Orleans.

And I second the recommendation that you spend Halloween in the French Quarter. You won't forget it. :evilgrin:

My daughter lives there now and we were considering visiting her on Halloween but would it be okay to bring a 13-year-old?
