Blind Man To Drive Racing Car

A BLIND British man launched his bid yesterday to become the first non-sighted person to drive a car at more than 289.6km/h.

Steve Cunningham, 41, of Oxfordshire, will have a sighted navigator with him for the challenge around a private race track in northern France.

He plans to push a Ferrari 355 GT - with a top speed of 299km/h - to its limits on the Stadium Automobiles track to become the record holder.

He is also looking for people to wear a blindfold and to set their own times to challenge him around the 2.4km track.

His training started yesterday at an airfield in Yorkshire.
