My truck's fanbelt just shredded itself
On the road, going toward the store, on Sunday night, on a holiday weekend, in heavy traffic. Also: no fanbelt = no power steering. :puke:

Good thing I was only 5 minutes from home, and my sister was able to come get me. And my mechanic's shop is just across the street from where I parked The Beast. And I have a van I can borrow from my sister until my truck is fixed.

It all evens out! :7

1. Bummer
A friend of mine had an old orange volvo he called 'the tank'. The tank met its end in a collision with a bunch of cacti.

2. That happened to me a few years ago...
I was driving home from school one day (and I was 1/2 mile away from home) when my alternator went. There was no way I was going to leave my car 1/2 mile away from home so I drove on SLOWLY...no power steering and smoke was coming in through the vents...but god dammit I made it home. I almost dislocated my shoulder making turns, and I did a damn fine job parking my big ass Cadillac in it's parking space...the fan belt was in pieces when I opened the hood

3. Fan belt is relatively cheap
Just don't drive with a broken fanbelt for long... overheating will ruin your engine block and cost big dollars.

You lucked out, as these things go.

5. That's why I parked it
It will also drain your battery in a VERY short time. I just hope it didn't take any other parts with it-- hoses, brake lines, etc. I saw something on the pavement underneath after I parked, but I hope it was just water from the AC.

4. Sorry man!
My first car was a 1979 Chevette with no power steering. Sucked steering it-- like driving an ancient box truck or something...
