What is up with Log Cabin Republicans?
I don't understand these people.

I'm watching this C-Span segment where these Republican gays are talking up their party. The same party whose leadership and bible-thumping base thinks that their "sodomite" asses will roast slowly in Hell for "their sins."

Now, I imagine that these guys are plenty well off financially.

Can't they even BUY A FUCKING CLUE?

1. They're wealthy, care only for wealth, and would roast their own if needed
They'd shack up with each other, but dump each other should one of them lose their job.

It's all about money to them, and they can afford to hide their true nature if need be. It's hard to be in a relationship with a closeted person... of course, LCRs don't have relationships - they have transactions.

3. I've been meaning to ask you, H-Toad
Is that's a pic of Blake from "Blake's 7".

That Brit sci-fi show with a penchant for killing off characters in grisly fashion, right?

5. Actually, it's Kerr Avon from Blake's 7 - but it's close enough!
Edited on Sun Sep-05-04 09:46 AM by HypnoToad
I'd seen Kerry's picture and instantly remembered that Avon had a similar stance. It was just too good to NOT put up. :7

Now that doesn't mean I want Kerry to lose or killed off! It's just fun to see the parallel how both figures are fighting a dark, evil empire. :D

The BBC is remaking/continuing Blake's 7 as well, due out in 2005. The US DVD release of the original 1978-1981 show has been put on hold indefinitely (I have to live with my 12 year old tapes  ), but having read that the whole series is to be released on 10 discs, they'd better be double-sided, dual-layer discs (or at least double-sided) or else I'll buy the UK ones and a NTSC converter. O8)

2. My GF is rich and thus has always been a repub (told her she's more rich
than gay), but she just this morn asked me to get her an absentee ballot and I said wait, I have to ask who you're voting for before I'm willing to do this, and she said Kerry of course. Hooray! I'll ask her how all this came about, but that is so great. She has NEVER voted for a dem before, and earlier she was just talking about not voting at all. And she's basically a shut-in---no cable, lives on a farm, no internet--and we hardly ever talk politics (which is why this was a surprise!), so she became pro-kerry just on her own based on regular ol' tv.

So...Kerry must be doing SOMETHING right!

6. I asked her Y, and she said Stem Cells! Her sister died of MS and she's
got two nephews with cerebral palsy, plus there seem to be numerous neurological probs in her family, so I do believe she will vote Kerry...!

11. Good for her.
Make sure you "help" her fill out her ballot.

7. Roy Cohn.

The original log cabin republican. A homophobic homosexual, Anti-Semitic Jew, and the impetus behind McCarthyism. Prime example of someone that would destroy his own, merely to get ahead.

One disgusting human being.

8. only thing
I can think of is that they want to maintain (or get back) a liberal SOCIAL wing of the party but have the party FISCALLY conservative. Like in the old days, 20 or more years ago. It is as if they are trying to keep something that has been gone for a while. It is as if they don't understand how their party has gone so far to the right, as if they have been asleep for 10 years.

13. You would think they would realize it would be easier to promote...
...fiscal conservativism from within the Democratic Party than trying to promote tolerance for gays in the Republican party.

14. some guy, can't think of the name or title of the book
but it was just written and is on the stands at the bookstores now (Title is something like "Under Fire") and it is about both parties, but way more so the GOP and it is about the gargantuan deficits and how close this country is to imploding financially . Something I have always agreed with as the deficit gets larger and larger. But it's a real indictment of the enormous spending, no holds barred an d how foreign governments really have been and are financing us to a greater and greater degree. I was reading the jacket and several senators (McCain. Nunn, etc)were recommending it strongly for every American to read.

BAck to your point, the Dems are way more fiscally conservative than Bush. Compare Bush to clinton.

12. Here is a perfect explanation for you.
Jewish person in Germany circa 1930: "We may have to pull our endorsement of Hitler because we disagree with his anti-semitic stance. But I really like their economic and military policy otherwise and their ideas for building a strong unified Germany and that's more important than my ethnic background and besides, I am sure we can work from the Nazi party within to change their stance on Jewish people."

Make sense?

Probably not.

That's why LCR are a paradox.

17. yeah, makes sense!
good example. I hadn't heard what the LCR group decided to do re endorsing the platform or the policies of the GOP. They sort of disappeared after Zell, Cheney etal. I wonder if they threw their support to the Dems (though I doubt it).

life, your rights, your children's lives, your children's rights, anyone else's life or rights. It's all about money, MrScorpio. :eyes:
