That nutty, nutty Reagan!
I have been looking for a quote Rotten Ronnie made while in Office, regarding some idiotic thing he said about video games being great practice for war, for the Youth of America... (If anyone knows the quote, can you please post it?)

Anyway...I was somewhat fondly remembering some of his antics, specifically when he told a reporter to "Oh, shut up!", and when he made that remark about "bombing Russia in five minutes".

What a headcase!

So, does anyone else want to pipe up about faveourite Reaganisms?

As an aside, does anyone think it'll be inappropriate for me to dance the funky chicken and buy rounds for everyone withing 100 yards of me when that evil old f*** finally dies?

2. Reagan - Yuck
Of course in comparison to bush2 he seems alert and intelligent.

Favorite Quote:
Facts are stupid things - Ronald Reagan

Didn't he say something about trees causing more polution than cars?

4. I found that quote
It's too bad Ronald Reagan is out of the loop. Back in the '80s, even as the surgeon general proclaimed Pac Man and Defender to be among America's top health risks, the Star Wars-minded president could barely restrain his enthusiasm. In a speech he gave to a group of teens at Epcot during the twinned heights of both his presidency and the cold war, Reagan said, "Watch a 12-year-old take evasive action while playing Space Invaders and you will appreciate the skills of tomorrow's pilot." In some ways, the laser-guided missiles of the Gulf War proved him right. But what about Columbine?

10. I copied the whole paragraph
that talked about the quote from a web page. It goes on to talk about the kids from columbine being into video games before they went on their rampage. In retrospect it does look confusing.

But come on. Video games don't make normal, well-parented kids shoot up their high school.

you should never put your REAL initials on the highscore when you win. The video game takes your picture and starts a dossier on you so the Black Helicopter folks can kidnap you for their Army of Evil(tm)

Didn't you ever see The Last Starfighter?

on Parliament Hill by protesters holding big signs that read "STOP ACID RAIN" and Reagan made the remark that acid rain was caused by trees!...Could that be what you are referring to?....LOL

3. What has happened to Ronald Reagan, and is now happening
to Chuck Heston is what I like to call karma. Also, what you put out into the world does come back to you, eventually. They are now paying the price for causing a lot of pain to a lot of people.

I won't celebrate when Reagan dies, but neither will I shed a tear.

6. Here's what's interesting about Reagan's position now..
Don't ask me to source this, because it's something someone told me (so, take it with a grain of salt)...

Nancy apparently flip/flopped on Stem Cell research as soon as it dawned on her that said research might help Ronnie.

Too little to late, y'old bat!

Can anyone back this up?

15. Yes, she did
Your intrepid internet researcher found many independent sources for the flip/flop, including the following:

<In her letter, Mrs. Reagan apparently wrote, "Who cares what we said 10 years ago. Ronnie knew my name back then. Now start chopping up some babies and find us a cure.">

OK, this was a post from some forum, but the legit sources back this up.

17. Sorry...
Alzheimer's strikes down both good and bad people. I hope you never have to go through watching a loved one develop the disease.

Calling it Karma strikes me as being awfully close to comments made by the far right religious freaks about HIV being "God's punishment of gays".

own name. It is very sad for the family to see the person but they aren't there. I guess he must have gotten some bad karma when he was young.

5. Hinckley release concerns...
I love how the right wing media is all worked up about the Hinckley unsupervised visits to his parents -- they seem specifically concerned that he'll track down Ronnie to finish the job. Like he wouldn't be doing Ronnie a big favor putting him out of his misery.

Maybe they're afraid that his folks will be having the Bush Sr. and Babs over for dinner on one of those weekends...

8. If you can find this book, grab a copy!

It's titled THE CLOTHES HAVE NO EMPEROR: A CHRONICLE OF THE AMERICAN '80s, by Paul Slansky (published in 1989). The book is in timeline form, beginning on Election Day 1980 and ending on Inauguration Day 1989.

If you're looking for stupid Reagan quotes, this book is bursting with them! Unfortunately, it must be long out of print, but with enough diligence, you might just be able to track a copy down. Trust me, the effort will not be in vain!

16. some friends and I LOUDLY and publicly celebrated Nixon's death
I plan to do the same for Raygun too. I have a bottle of Bushmill's all saved up for the occasion. Hell, I might even spring for a blast from the Midleton.

The night before Nixon died, I was in NY. It was apparent he was dying. Headlines said Nixon Near Death and the like.

I saw Richard Belzer at Caroline's and though he was on tour doing stand-up, he devoted his whole set to Nixon bashing because he wanted to get it all in one last time before the bastard died. It was outrageously funny.

Sidenote. Bill Maher was there that night too, though he didn't perform. It was when Politically Incorrect was still on the Comedy Channel.

18. No, I don't think it will be inappropriate for
you to do the happy dance when Ray-gun goes off to meet his maker. I'll be there to join you. We will need to support one another because I am sure the corporate media will have all kinds of rememberances for him. It will also speed up the project to have a monument or something named after Reagan in every state.

I would find it hypocritical if DUers all of sudden started getting all sentimental about the guy once he kicks. If a person was a jerk or an a-hole while living he does not become a saint when dead...Just my humble opinion.

I never like Ray-gun and feel he is getting his reward a little early. I know Alzheimers is a horrible condition but it couldn't happen to a more deserving individual.

19. I couldn't agree more...
I'm not proud of this kind of "schadenfreude" (sp?), but honestly, ask the population of Central and South America, the Midle East, and basically anywhere else with resources wanted by US corporate interests to spot the difference between Reagan and Hitler, and they'd be hard-pressed to do so.

If you want to ask closer to home, ask the American Hostages who were kept in captivity for longer than neccessary to make good press for Reagan.

Or, ask his 'friends' who he sold out to the SCUA to further his career.

My old neighbour succummed to Alzheimer's, and it is truly horrible. I don't believe in Karma or a Higher Power, I just think it's fitting for a man who, from a life of privilege and comfort, inflicted so much suffering on the people of the world to get a little of his own on his way out.

Go ahead, dance! It eliminates the disrespect dilemma and he's pretty impotent at this point anyway.

Before the flames start, I mean he is out of power; I am NOT making fun of the tragedy of his Alzheimer's.
