I don't understand how these people can manage to be R.E.M. fans.. I mean, it'd be like a gay vegetarian socialist being a major Toby Keith groupie. But... Anyway, the political discussion at Murmurs.com is incredibly overrun with these right-wing yahoos. If any of y'all are REM fans, and you want to help present the intelligent liberal perspective over there, we are sorely in need of further representation!

great site, too.

1. I think a more effective strategy would be to discuss obscure tracks
with them. If they're really fans, they'll shut up about politics and talk about REM instead. If they're not they'll a) be exposed and b) might get bored and go away.

What on Earth is an REM site doing having political discussions?

2. Yes, Decipher the background track in 9-9

---and then we can talk the deficit. Mmmmm.

R.E.M., being a very political band, has a lot of politically aware fans. (And a lot of politically naive fans, too.) But the political discussions are usually pretty active.

3. go to the James Taylor forum and you'll see the same thing
messages from users with low post counts saying "I can't believe JT is a lib, I used to be such a big fan".
