What does it mean when you dream about your teeth falling out?
I used to have these dreams regularly and then they stopped for years. But they have started up again and I am wondering if it is supposed to have some significance.

Any interpretations? Thanks!

2. I don't know but it's a very common theme.

It definitely has a very specific meaning, supposedly. Loss, or something?

3. Are you grinding your teeth
in your sleep?

When I was a kid I used to dream that my teeth were turning into a mouthful of grits. I wasn't grinding exactly, but I was clenching my jaw.

22. No, just had one in July, not a big number though,
The main thing that scares me about aging is the financial aspect of it.

9. Think back. When you had dreams in the past about you teeth falling out,
did any friends or relatives die shortly thereafter. Whenever my 82 year old mother in law has a dream about her teeth falling out someone in or close to the family dies.

Don't ask me
I had a dream last night where my girlfriend from 20 years ago came and sat on my lap, her face about two inches from mine. Most of the details were lost when I slipped the arms of Morpheus, but she was still quite beautiful, and I had to turn aside her advances.

It was very strange. But each of us still had our respective teeth.

10. I've heard of this...
I think the traditional interpretation is that it's the expression of an unresolved fear that you aren't strong enough to handle the situation(s) confronting you.

it has no particular meaning. I used to have the same kind of dream and talked to friends about it and found that most of them had had them.

14. The intepretation I heard
Is that you feel powerless, i.e. "toothless", in the face of whatever relationship, situation or problem you are currently dealing with.

BTW, the only reason I know this is, I've had this dream for a good portion of my life. Turns out I grind my teeth and clench my jaw. Go see a dentist, you might just need a night guard. ;-)

25. That makes the most sense to me!
And I haven't been to the Dentist in a while, since I have always had good teeth.

Turns out I am going to visit my sister over labor day and her husband is a dentist, so maybe I will have him check it out! Thanks!:)

15. It's just high anxiety
You might also get the ones with your hair falling out. Of course if you report back that you aren't experiencing anxiety, it would then most likely mean you're overdue to visit the dentist and feeling guilty about it.

17. Dreammoods.com sez;

"My Teeth Are Falling"

Dreams that your teeth are falling out are the most common dreams we here at Dream Moods receive. Common dream scenarios include having your teeth crumbling in your hands or your teeth falling out one by one with just a light tap. Such dreams are not only horrifying and shocking, but often leaves the dreamer with a lasting image of the dream. So what does it mean?

One theory is that dreams about your teeth reflect your anxiety about your appearance and how others perceive you. Sadly, we live in a world where good looks are valued highly and your teeth play an important role in conveying that image. Teeth are used in the game of flirtations, whether it be a dazzling and gleaming smile or affectionate necking. These dreams may stem from a fear of your sexual impotence or the consequences of getting old. Teeth are an important feature of our attractiveness and presentation to others. Everybody worries about how they appear to others. Caring about our appearance is natural and healthy.

Another rationalization for these falling teeth dream may be rooted in your fear of being embarrassed or making a fool of yourself in some specific situation. These dreams are an over-exaggeration of your worries and anxiety.

Teeth are used to bite, tear, chew and gnaw. In this regard, teeth represent power. And the loss of teeth in your dream may be from a sense of powerlessness. Are you lacking power in some current situation? Perhaps you are having difficulties expressing yourself or getting your point across. You feel frustrated when your voice is not being heard. You may be experiencing feelings of inferiority and a lack of self-confidence in some situation or relationship in your life. This dream is an indication that you need to be more assertive and believe in the value of your own opinion.

In the latest research, it has been shown that women in menopause have frequent dreams about teeth. This may be related to getting older and/or feeling unattractive and less feminine.

Traditionally, it was thought that dreaming that you did not have teeth, represent malnutrition which may be applicable to some dreamers.

26. I am not overly concerned w/ appearance and I don't
embarrass easily either. I think it's this one:

"Teeth are used to bite, tear, chew and gnaw. This dream is an indication that you need to be more assertive and believe in the value of your own opinion."

Powerlessness - Don't we all feel that these days! I am really now upset on a personal level about the state of the world and how I am going to survive in a neo-con universe. I was always angry about it, now I am scared.

Anxiety, Fear and Powerlessness all seem to make the most sense.

Also, wouldn't be a bad idea to go to the Dentist either! :)

29. I am VERY familiar with this one.
Teeth falling out, recurring dream, my old therapist told me that was a sign of anger, yeah anger. In the animal world, an animal will "bare his teeth to scare the other animal."

Anger, my friend, anger.

30. There has been plenty of that lately too!
In part of the dream, before I lost all the teeth, a dentist made a cast of my mouth so that he could re-create a full set of teeth for me.

I wonder what that means.

31. I don' know, but I've had a re-occurring nightmare myself
about all my bridgework and crowns falling off. In the dream they just start crumbling and falling out. I just keep spitting metal. It's funny though my dental work is porcelain. So it makes no sense to me other than I'm anxious about my oral health.
