Anyone else watching the VMA's on MTV?
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 07:20 PM by NewHampshireDem
So, WTF?

j/k ... I am watching them ... 17 minutes in and NO MUSIC I'D EVER LISTEN TO--except for the one No Doubt *cover* of a song I liked better 20 years ago. :sigh:

Am I old or what?

3. The conversation at my house just now...
Me (Flipping through channels): Hmmm...the VMA's are on.

My wife: Wow. I must truly be old if I had no idea anymore as to when the VMA's are on.

Why is this such an indication of age? I'm only 34 and my wife only 28 but still not knowing when the VMAs are on, and not being familiar with most of the artists makes you feel old. We fought the good fight much longer than we probably had to, but still..

It makes me sick how little goes into it and how quickly people will scream and cheer at the top of their longs like everyone else around them. It makes me ill :puke:

IT SUCKS SO BAD NOW!!!

I don't know how anyone can watch it now, its the most corporately controlled boring pop crappy music, whatever's selling is whats good, dull channel.

i hate it, watching it for longer than 2 minutes makes me want to blow my brains out.

25. Corporate rock still sucks
Its an old SST slogan, but still true. When I was 16 MTV sucked and it still has not changed.

There is so much good music in the world. My tastes have changed from when I was a kid. I still like loud music (and other things) but I will never be force fed crap because it has been deemed cool by some big corporation.

However, Outkast is really cool, notwithstanding the fact they are being pushed by corporations.

29. The Spree are just the best
I have seen The Polyphonic Spree four times and think they are amazing and uplifting and unlike any other artists making music today. They bring a vibe of optimism and joy to a weary world. It was amazing seeing them in this kind of venue. "Hold Me Now" is not a favorite of mine, but it is the single and it is catchy. This particular arrangement was unique -- particularly in that the lead vocals were really turned down, allowing only the choir to be heard singing the chorus. If this performance caught your attention at all, you should really check these folks out. Their two records are good, but their blissed out live shows are what make them so wonderful.

32. I don't listen to the music they played a lot,
but my 2-year-old and I had a blast dancing! She kept saying things like, "Kick your leg, Mommy!", and "Spin around, Mommy!" She was a hoot! She would get mad when the music would stop so they could give out an award. I'm 34, too, but I knew who most of the artists were. I have to keep up with my elementary students!

33. OutKast kept telling everyone to vote.
I only saw a little of the show, but there were all these signs reading "vote" and one of the OutKast guys had a t-shirt that said 'vote or die'. John Mellencamp gave a little speech telling everyone to vote. Voting was heavily emphasized, so at least one good thing came out of the VMA.
