Horatio Hornblower books by CS Forrester (for my cousins)

A few Prattchets for those so inclined
same thing for books out of Steven Erikson's Malazan series.

For fellow students books from the Cambridge "Elements of ... Style" series. Weizenbaum's or Chomsky's books are usually a good idea as well.

Neil Stephenson, but most who like his books have them all already.

Heinrich Mann, when "good" books are in order.

14. i've finished reading this....
VERY GOOD BOOK!!! I highly recommend it...not your usual self-promoting political memoir. It was written 10 years ago, before Obama started running for elected office and is a very honest, moving, compelling personal journey. I couldn't put it down.

8. "The Baby Book" by Dr. William Sears.
I buy it as a gift for almost every baby shower I've attended. Burn the other stupid baby books (especially the corporate bullshit "What to Expect" crap or even worse any of the "Babywise" books). This book helps you effectively parent a baby in a loving way, not how to "control" helpless infants.

9. Many over the years
Lately it's been "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. The man is brilliant and it's such a complex yet beautiful book. Hard to describe though.
