Poll question: Would you wear a sportcoat on a first date?
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 06:40 PM by HypnoToad
I've two dates coming up. I want to look sharp without looking pompous.

Would a sportcoat be too much?

Example to follow...

OF COURSE! I where sportcoats to the mall

If you're worried about looking too pompous - don't wear a tie.
What colour coat? and Pants?

2. the poll is worded poorly
I don't know if Yes means "yes I'd wear a sportcoat" or "Yes, wearing a sportcoat is too much".

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with wearing a sportcoat on a first date.

21. Yes, I do need to double-check my polls before posting them...
Sorry about that!

Yes, I did go off on a tangent and the poll refers to the subject line and not my ultimate dithering...

5. Totally ok
but it really depends on where you are going... and you don't want to over-dress compared to your date. That would embarrass them.

10. Wear the coat.
Guys that asked me out were overwhelmingly underwhelming as a rule and usually could not dress themselves. My husband, though he hates it, dresses what we call "one click up"... where others wear jeans, he wears dockers, etc... (and he's a programming geek!! WTF? Where DID it come from??) He wears coats on a regular basis.

I'm not saying his ability to dress himself was the deciding factor, but it definitely got him a second date. Women have better things to do than re-educate slobs. A tweed and jeans is fine as long as the jeans are nice... And it looks dashing.

As it happens, the reverse is true, as well. The fact that I wear suits on a regular basis catches his eye as well. He won't - and he's got a roving eye, though not hands - give the hottest woman a second glance if she's dressed like a slut or a slob. (His words, not mine. Though I've seen him do it. Hell, I'll look at slobby women longer than he will!)

Pcat

12. As long as it isn't a blue one with brass buttons, you're good to go
Dress up for the women, dude! It shows them you respect them and that the evening means something to you.

As you likely already knew, or you wouldn't have beenasking the question to begin with. :-)

And I know you promised earlier to iron the shirt, but now that I *see* it, I COMMAND you to iron that shirt. Well.

You should also have toilet paper hanging out of your pants.

27. No, I meant the toilet paper in a jokey
"No, really, it's suave to have toilet paper coming out of your pants" kind of way, in attempt to lighten the mood after complaining about your collar.

Sorry for the lack of vocal inflection you would have heard had I been able to speak it. As written, it looks like a pretty nasty dig at you. Sorry about that. Didn't mean it that way at all.

No offense taken! (One flaw of mine is that I tend to take things too literally... it's a disease. Like generalized anxiety disorder, depression, eczema, or gollywoggles. :D)
