Yes, I posted something from Brad deLong yesterday that I thought was great but didn't even get a nibble.

But I think some of the biggest contributors to DU are folks like dArKeR and papau who submit things on foreign affairs and economics that don't get many replies. It really gives breadth and substance to this site, and that's what I like about it.

It's too bad that elad had to remove the statistic showing how many hits or views each thread had. I'd really like to know if people are looking at my post even if they're not responding.

5. Not anymore

It just goes with the territory. Some of the ones I really thought would be great went almost unnoticed. I've always marched to my own drummer anyway, so I'm not really surprised to discover that most people don't give a shit about things that fascinate me.

Example: archaeological finds. These stories absolutely fascinate me. Apparently, however, no one else here shares my fascination because those suckers sink faster that a torpedoed swiftboat...

I'm frequently dismayed at WHICH threads die on the vine . . . sometimes I'll post something that I think is REALLY interesting, and it gets zero responses . . . and then I'll post something totally frivolous, just for kicks, and get like 30 comments . . . one never knows, do one? . . . :)

I'm surprised that some of the "off the cuff" threads I post get more than ones when I ask a question or post something that I think is really interesting. But it is just one of those things....I don't lose sleep.

What is amazing is that recently a nothing of a thread of mine, saying so-and-so-Repuke-is-a-cheeneeing-a**h***------got some 50 posts, while threads that were the result of much time, effort, and thought go SO nowhere that I end up embarrassingly self-kicking.
