Need help splitting an mp3 file
I have a large ass mp3 file about 270Mb+. I want to split it up into smaller sections so I can put it on CD and have multiple tracks instead of one 25 hour long one.

I have ezMP3edit, which I love.

The problem is, I don't enough computer memory for the computer to load the file into ezmp3edit.

ARGH!

Is there something I can do to split the file first into two parts? If split in half, I'll have room to load the file into ezmp3edit.

I used to use DOS to split and rejoin video files (and other files), but I can't remember the DOS command I used (and my book is packed up somewhere), and I'm also not sure that if I split the mp3 file at some random bit count (well, it would be chosen by me, but chosen at random) if it would still be usable anymore.

Anyne have a solution other than loading more memory into the computer? I've already turned off all the applications and little things that I could, which freed up some memory, but still isn't enough.

The damnable thing is, I've worked with mp3 files over 200MB before, so this one must be just barely over the limit of what my computer can handle. ARGH!

Thanks in advance!

3. that looks good, but it leaves me with the same problem
it needs to load the whole file into memory to work on it.

I don't have enough memory.

I'm looking for a way to split the file into two (or looking for assurance from someone that the DOS file splitter will still leave the file playable) so I can work on them separately.

9. Woo hoo! I think that's the one
Downlaoding it now.

Thanks!

Says it runs with 8MB of memory, so that should be a pretty good sign it doesn't have to load an entire file into memory to work on it. :-)

4. Quicktime can do it.
You'll need the pro version ($30) to save files. You can cut large files into easier-to-handle chunks without being limited by your system's memory.

6. Have you tried MP3Cutter?
http://mp3cutter.cjb.net/

I don't know if it will do any better or worse than the programs you've tried already, but I use it all the time without problems.

7. How much swap space do you have?
Is your hard drive almost full or something? That could be the reason you can't handle a 270 MB audio file. Your operating system uses free space on your hard drive as extra memory. It makes your computer slow as hell when your OS needs to keep writing to the hard drive to function, so you really begin to notice it when the hard drive is churning all the time and your files take forever to load.

Try cleaning stuff you don't need off your hard drive, or maybe back up some files to CD and remove them, and see if that helps.

8. No, I have a good 10GB of free drive space
though that's a good reminder - I did have the thing loaded up once and it was quiet slow til I realized how close to filling the drive I came. :-)

I only have 512MB of memory, whcih is one of the problems. It used to be a lot, now it's almost irrelevant.
