Harlem Nocturne
Love it? Hate it? Don't know what the hell I'm talking about?

Is anyone else haunted by this tune?

Why can I never hear it enough?

But I'm not going to dislodge this pleasant earworm by mentioning any examples. :)

2. Love it.
The ultimate version was by Ray Noble & his orchestra. But the version on TV's "Mike Hammer" show was good too.

19. Earle Hagen played "Harlem Nocturne" as the theme of the TV series.
He's better known for composing the themes to "Andy Griffith" and "The Waltons".

3. It rings a bell, but I'm drawing a blank?

I'm curious about that, and this quote?

Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled - Was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field. - A gypsy with a broken flag and a flashing ring - Said, "Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing."

on edit- Oh, Mike Hammer clues me in...yeah man...nice.

6. It's a Dylan lyric.
Can't do the tilde (I'm dumb) but the title of the song is Senor (Tales of Yankee Power).

12. Well... I can post the lyrics. :-)
Senor, senor, do you know where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon?
Seems like I been down this way before.
Is there any truth in that, senor?

Senor, senor, do you know where she is hidin'?
How long are we gonna be ridin'?
How long must I keep my eyes glued to the door?
Will there be any comfort there, senor?

There's a wicked wind still blowin' on that upper deck,
There's an iron cross still hanging down from around her neck.
There's a marchin' band still playin' in that vacant lot
Where she held me in her arms one time and said, "Forget me not."

Senor, senor, I can see that painted wagon,
I can smell the tail of the dragon.
Can't stand the suspense anymore.
Can you tell me who to contact here, senor?

Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was that trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field.
A gypsy with a broken flag and a flashing ring
Said, "Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing."

Senor, senor, you know their hearts is as hard as leather.
Well, give me a minute, let me get it together.
I just gotta pick myself up off the floor.
I'm ready when you are, senor.

Senor, senor, let's disconnect these cables,
Overturn these tables.
This place don't make sense to me no more.
Can you tell me what we're waiting for, senor?

8. A great, great song
There are many good versions of it out there, but the Viscounts' record from 1959 is the best. Establishes an instant mood.

10. I have always liked it.
This summer my 18 year old bass playing son was in a musical. At one point he had to leave the orchestra pit and go out on stage for that song. A woman dressed in a sexy costume came out amd rubbed herself all over him and he was supposed to sway with her while she stroked his bass. It cracked me up because he is so totally devoted to his music he has never even thought about dating knowing what his life needs to be like for a while. He looked so uncomfortable. Now this is much more than you wanted to know. The song does not haunt me but I do like it and have played it many times. Great song.

22. The flute is so beautiful
but I have never been able to play it. Getting my Music Ed degree we had to learn to play everything so we could teach it. I would get tunnel vision and start to pass out when I played the flute. I never learned how to play it very well.
